Massive thank you to St Vincent’s GAA Club Dublin, who visited us last weekend and played games against our under-nines, under-11s and under-13s. The pitch was a hive of activity.

This Sunday ‘Gaelic Sunday’ is being celebrated all around the country. This is to commentate the day in August 1918, the GAA organised games in local areas after the British forces banned hurling and football. Our club was one of the few to take part with police noted to have entered the field but left after some time. The men that took part in the game are as follows: T Murphy, P Murphy, D Murphy, E Murphy, J Murphy, N J Murphy, P Whelan, L Whelan, J Whelan, E O’Brien, M Dempsey, P Dempsey, M Cullen, P Cullen, W Cullen, T Cullen, J Dempsey, John Dempsey, J Sinnott, T Marsh, T Carty, J Kavanagh, D Lacy, M Lacy, O’Lacy, P Mangan, T Kelly, J Breen, A Dempsey, J Whelan, John Whelan made a capable referee. The first team played the second team with the first team winning by a point. Hard to believe of course that they were banned but we should thank the men above for their bravery shown to continue on with our native sport and that today we reap the rewards of what they stood for when we get to visit the field on a warm evening watching either football or hurling.
