Many reasons for headaches – and lots of ways to address them

-

HEADACHES are common and have many different causes. However, if you get headaches out of the blue that are totally uncharacteristic for you, make sure to have them checked out. Headaches can be a symptom of an underlying condition that needs to be addressed. There are different types of headaches including migraine, and cluster or tension headaches.

Stress, lack of sleep, hormonal imbalance, inadequate diet, and dehydration are just some causes of headaches. Bad posture, geopathic stress, and excess time spent on electronic devices could also be a cause.

And certainly if you combine the above issues you may be more likely to experience a headache. Think about it, you could eat a highly processed meal that is lacking in nutrients; you eat it while you’re slouched over your desk or mobile phone or on the go. It’s followed by a dehydrating tea, coffee, or fizzy drink, and no water. And you had a sleepless night. So is it any wonder you have a headache?

The most overlooked cause is dehydration. Not drinking enough water is a classic cause of headaches. So, extra fluids could be the simple answer.

Food intolerance may be a trigger. A food diary will help you figure out which foods are causing the problem. Dairy intolerance is most associated with cluster headaches.

Some women get cyclical headaches associated with their monthly cycle. Herbs like Agnus Castus, Vitamin B6, and Evening Primrose Oil, can help normalise hormones potentially preventing headaches.

Constipation is a common cause of headache that is not often considered. Increasing fluids and fibre is a good place to start.

Here are some natural remedies to try. White Willow is a natural painkiller, which acts in similar ways to aspirin. You take it when you have a headache.

Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory. It’s best if taken over a period of time if you’re prone to headaches.

Magnesium may help tension headaches although you may need to take it for a couple of months.

Homeopathic remedies are great as they may be safer if you’re taking medication. New Vistas HDA is a good option here.

Whatever the cause, natural remedies have a solution. Call into your local health store for advice today. Remember to check before use if you’re on medication.
