Memorial walk set to continue good work

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

FRIENDS and family of the late Ger Devereux are busy putting the final plans in place ahead of 2018 memorial walk/run in his memory. Formerly of the Milehouse in Enniscorthy, Ger served in the Defence Forces for many years and was a popular character around town before his untimely passing in September 2015, having suffered a heart attack.

Since then, Ger’s brother Michael and the rest of his family and friends have been busy raising funds and awareness to try and stem the flow of tragic losses as a result of heart conditions around the country. This work culminated in last year’s memorial walk, the funds from which were used to fund four defibrillators and train over 30 people in their use in the Enniscorthy area with the help of Enniscorthy Red Cross.

‘We hope to continue this work this year, aiding heart care services in the Enniscorthy area, to provide more defibrillators and training supported by Enniscorthy Red Cross,’ said Michael. ‘I’d appreciate your support together we can make a difference.’

Ger’s family are hoping for similar success this year and are encouraging the people of Enniscorthy to join them in wearing red and setting off on a 5km walk around town on September 9. The walk will both start and finish at Bellefield GAA Complex and will follow a short route around Enniscorthy. Registration will take place on the morning at 10 a.m. and the walk will commence at 11 a.m. People of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to take part and are encouraged to wear red on the day.

All donations, big and small, are welcome online, through sponsorship cards or on the day. For any enquiries, contact Michael on 0872927138.
