TRUCKERS GET ROLLING FOR A MONSTER MRI SCANNER EVENT
THE organisers of this year’s Wexford Monster Truck run said it was a great success with many people lining the route as the convoy of vehicles passed through the county’s four main towns.
The run took place on Saturday, July 28, and culminated in a meal and social night in a purpose-built marquee at the old Renault compound in Kilrane.
Speaking to this newspaper about the event the Chairperson of the organising committee, Con Morris, said it was very successful despite inclement weather on Friday evening threatening to dampen the spirits of those involved.
‘As it turned out we had good weather on Saturday and Sunday so it all worked out well and we were really impressed with how people lined the route, par- ticularly in Gorey, which created a great atmosphere,’ he said.
Around 80 lorries participated and given the fact that many of those involved were owner-drivers the organisers were particularly appreciative of their efforts to support the event which was held to raise money for the Friends of Wexford Hospital MRI fund.
‘We had a great meal and dance in the marquee on Saturday night which was brilliant,’ said Mr Morris.
While the run took place on Saturday there was a truck show and entertainment the following day and that also proved to be a great success.
‘A lot of people just came in off the street,’ said Mr Morris.
‘We had a good couple of days this year and we will definitely be holding it again next year and it’s all for a good cause.’
