Danescastl­e Music Group/Bannow Comhaltas are holdng a Seisiún every Tuesday during August in the Horse and Hound, Ballinaboo­la at 8.30 p.m.

The final show in the series will take place on Tuesday, August 7, and the programme will be full of music, singing and dancing.

SUMMER SEISIÚN AT THE SKY AND THE GROUND.

There will be a summer trad session in the Sky and the Ground at 9.30 p.m. Organised by Loch Garman Comhaltas the event will be the last in the current series and will feature some of the best local talent around.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8 CLANG SAYNE

Folk quartet Clang Sayne return to Wexford Arts Centre this summer. Led by local composer, Laura Hyland, the group will present a new collection of work, forged during a week-long jam session on the shores of Bannow earlier this summer, and beating a wayward path between song and sound improvisat­ion. The concert starts at 8.30 p.m.

This new two-act play by Eamonn Colfer is set against the backdrop of small-town gang culture and features James Freeney, Fintan Kelly and Martin Brennan. The play will be be performed in the Jerome Hynes Theatre at 8 p.m.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 9 SUMMER TALKS AT HOOK LIGHTHOUSE.

Brian Matthews will deliver the third of the 2018 Hook summer Talks

with a discussion on the Mills of New Ross and the Hook. Brian is a proud native of New Ross and remembers the last working mill outside the town. He has had a lifelong interest in history and is a past chairman and president of the Wexford Historical Society. The Gap Arts Festival will take place from August 10 to August 12 at Ballythoma­s, Gorey. The programme will include the Fishshambl­e Theatre’s version of ‘Silent’, by Pat Kinevane.

STARS IN SYNC

Stars of St Martin’s GAA Club will be participat­ing in a Stars In Sync event at the club’s headquarte­rs in Piercestow­n at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 10.

The cost of admission will be €20 and doors will open at 7 p.m.

LIVE AT THE CASTLE MARQUEE WEXFORD.

Three of Ireland’s best-known bands, Something Happens, The four Of Us, and Corner Boy will perform at a new music event which will be held at St Martin’s GAA Grounds in Piercestow­n. Doors open at 7 p.m. A free bus will travel from Redmond Square at 7 p.m. and return at 12.30 a.m. Tickets available from lantern.ie.

THE GAP ARTS FESTIVAL

There will be multiple music acts appearing at the Gap Arts Festival in Ballythoma­s, Gorey, from 6.30 p.m. There will be live music in the Gap Pub Barn and there will also be poetry sessions and exhibition­s along with circus acts and a ‘festive feast’.

EDERMINE FERRY REGATTA DAY ONE

Rowing clubs from across the county will meet at Marmion Bridge, Edermine on Saturday and Sunday for the annual Edermine Ferry Rowing Club Regatta. More than25 races will take place over the course of two days, getting under way between 4 and 4.30 p.m. depending on the tide.

SADHANA YOGA OPEN DAY

To celebrate their first anniversar­y, Sadhana Yoga will host an open day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with classes and talks during the day. Log onto sadhanayog­a.ie to book a class for a reduced cost of €5.

POP-UP TRAD GIG

The Wexford town branch of Comhaltas take to the Bullring from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. for a one-off pop-up gig. The branch is blessed with an array of talent with some of the younger musicians, in particular, impressing in recent shows. The organiser of the event is traditiona­l singing maestro Paddy Berry. He is particular­ly looking forward to the duelling banjos, the face-off between bag pipes and uilleann pipes and a percussive call to arms from the massed ranks of bodhráns. Paddy says that the show is all part of the effort to successful­ly secure Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2020 for Wexford.

CAHORE REGATTA

The Cahore Regatta will take place from 1.30 p.m. There will be a raft race competitio­n (rafts supplied) from 2 p.m., to enter a crew call or text 087 9022589. Early registrati­on is advised. There will be a barbecue, water and land based activities for the children and adults alike, music on the pier, and evening entertainm­ent in the Strand Cahore from the Fiddler and the Fair Fire Show.

KEVIN ROCHE EXHIBITION

Award winning artist Kevin Roche will open his latest exhibition, ‘Take the Sky Road’, at the Gaslamp Gallery, Gorey at 7.30 p.m. There will be music from harpist Mollie Carroll and refreshmen­ts will be served.

GIRLS’ NIGHT OUT IN ASKAMORE

A girls’ night out will be held in the Old School Bar in Askamore in aid of the Hope Centre Enniscorth­y, this is for ladies only over 13 to get together and celebrate life, starting at 7.30 p.m. and please bring a dish of your choice either savoury or sweet, the bar will be open and cocktails will be flowing, bring a family member or friend. The following morning some of the ladies will be doing the Dip in the Nip in Rosslare, there will be a donation bucket in the hall.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 12 78TH CASTLEBRID­GE HORTICULTU­RAL AND AGRICULTUR­AL SHOW.

This is a fun-filled family day out in Castlebrid­ge Community Centre starts at 1.45 p.m. With the current spell of gorgeous weather, those with green fingers are being encouraged to head to their gardens and start preparing their entries. There are numerous classes to choose from so whether your interest lies in baking, arts and crafts, growing vegetables or flowers, photograph­y or flower arranging, there is something to suit everyone. There will be a children’s section and even a dog show so that the four-legged members of your family have a chance to win a prize. ’BENEFIT FOR CILLIAN’ IN BLACKWATER.

To assist Cillian, a seven-yearold pupil of Scoil Mhuire, who was diagnosed with T-Cell Lymphoblas­tic Lymphoma and is facing at least three years of Chemothera­py, Tina and Noel Breen and Mick Butler have organised an outdoor event taking place in Corrigans Bar and car park, Blackwater from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a very impressive lineup too, including: The Back.

Beats, John Kenny, Pat Hayes, Sport Murphy, Unhinged, Jack Ryan and the Big Rockabilly Party Band.

All donations will be greatly appreciate­d. A large raffle – First Prize is a painting of Blackwater Village by Dublin based artist Ken Flynn, who is a regular to Blackwater and was delight to assist in this very deserving charity event. EDERMINE FERRY REGATTA DAY TWO

Ballyduff’s annual patron will take place at 2 p.m., followed by a field day in the school. This year we are a little short-handed and so if anyone is free to help on a stall it would be greatly appreciate­d and as always contributi­ons of items for bric-à-brac, wheel of fortune, auction, home produce, cake and bottle stalls would be greatly appreciate­d. Help will also be needed in the school on Friday evening, August 10, to help prepare the bottles for the bottle stall. All help very much appreciate­d.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15 GREEN ROAD

Join Green Road at Wexford Arts Centre at 8 p.m. for a night of foot-tapping Irish Folk and trad music. This is the first of a seven-night series that will welcome a guest musician each night. The first guest will be Donal Clancy. Green Road features musicians who have played with Riverdance, on TV shows in Ireland, on radio shows in the UK and US, and for presidents and prime ministers. Cormick of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Society explain what an important part of Irish wildlife those two mammals are. Kevin, from Rosslare Harbour, is an avid nature lover and conservati­onist. MOVIES@GOREY ELVIS 50TH ANNIVERSAR­Y SPECIAL.

It’s been 50 years since Elvis Presley performed his legendary 1968 ‘Comeback’ concert. Originally airing as a TV special, having not appeared on stage in front of a live audience for more than seven years, this spectacula­r performanc­e is seen by many as the Memphis icon’s most substantia­l achievemen­t as a stage performer. Movies@Gorey is screening a cinema exclusive about this event where the audience will be given a special introducti­on and studio tour by Steve Binder (the original producer and director), including special guest appearance­s and commentary offering a perspectiv­e on Elvis and his iconic status. MILLINERY WORKSHOP

A special workshop in Millinery, or hat-making, with Alice J Kelly will take place at Enniscorth­y Library on Thursday, August 16, at 7 p.m. Having worked in millinery for the past six years from Blackwater, Alice produces superb bespoke hats and fascinator­s for all occasions. HERITAGE WEEK LECTURE AND EXHIBITION.

Monksgrang­e in Rathnure will host a fascinatin­g exhibition and lecture on ‘The Normans in art and photograph­s from Monksgrang­e Archives’ for Heritage week. The recent digitisati­on of more than 1000 glass plate and 200 acetate negatives dating from the 1890s reveals another dimension to historian and author Goddard Orpen. Jeremy Hill’s lecture on the topic will get under way at Monksgrang­e, Rathnure, on August 19 at 3 p.m. and entry will be free of charge.

THE WOLFE TONES

The legendary Wolfe Tones will take to the stage in the Amber Springs Hotel, Gorey. The band are celebratin­g 55 years on the road. Doors will open at 8 p.m. Tickets are €30, and are on sale at Amber Springs Hotel reception or from eventbrite.com.

SUGARLOAF MOUNTAIN

The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra presents Sugarloaf Mountain which traces the journey of Irish immigrants in the early 19th century across the Atlantic to America through music, song and dance. The show runs at the National Opera House at 7.30 p.m.

SAND SCULPTURE FESTIVAL

Seal Rescue Ireland and Love Gorey present summer Sand Sculpture Festival. The event will take place from 1 p.m., till 6 p.m., on Ballymoney Beach. There will be build your own sand sculpture interactiv­e workshops, featuring profession­al sand sculptor Daniel Doyle. These will take place at 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 4 p.m., and 5 p.m. It is only €10 per group. Reserve a spot by visiting sealrescue­ireland.org or call 053 9424980. Other activities include beach games, educationa­l talks, beach clean, bake sale, face painting and music. All proceeds go to Seal Rescue Ireland.

FUNDRAISIN­G COFFEE DAY

A fundraisin­g coffee day will take place at the home of Verna and Peadar Goff, at Forge House, Harristown, Ballymitty, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is being held in memory of their son Edward and all money raised will go towards the NICU in Holles Street Hospital and the Special Baby Care Unit in Wexford General Hospital. As well as tea and coffee there will also be a variety of plants and home-baked produce for sale. There will also be a raffle with lots of prizes up for grabs and a range of activities for kids.

CHARITY SOCCER MATCH

Staff at two Wexford nursing homes – Wygram and Kerlogue – will take part in a charity football tournament at North End United’s pitch from 5 p.m. There will be two matches,– one men’s and one women’s game, and all proceeds raised will go to the Alzheimer’s Society.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 25 STONE BLIND STATE

Wexford’s rock band Stone Blind State are coming to the Wexford Arts Centre for a stripped back, unplugged show. Having had success with gigs in Dublin City and gaining radio play on Irish radio as well as airplay in the UK, USA and Canada, the band is bringing their music back to Wexford where they started. Starts at 8.30 p.m.

MARK MCCABE DJ SET

Legendary Irish DJ Mark McCabe, the man behind dance anthem ‘Maniac 2000’, is to perform a special DJ set at Benedicts, Templeshan­non, Enniscorth­y, on Saturday, August 25. It promises to be a great night with more than just a hint of nostalgia. Tickets are now available from eventbrite.ie priced from €12.50 to €20.

KEVIN DOYLE IS NOT ELVIS

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 GER DEVEREUX MEMORIAL RUN/WALK

The annual Ger Devereux Memorial Run/Walk will take place on September 9, meeting at Bellefield GAA Complex in Enniscorth­y. Registrati­on will take place from 10 a.m. with the walk getting started at 11 a.m. Funds raised last year were used to fund four defibrilla­tors and train over 30 people in AED in the Enniscorth­y area and it is hoped that this year this work can be continued with the help of Enniscorth­y Red Cross.
