Sunday was an historic day for Irish sport as the women’s national side became the first field sports team Ireland has ever produced to reach a World Cup final.

While the result on the pitch didn’t go as hoped, a silver medal for a side ranked outside the top ten in the world is a massive achievement and has hopefully helped create a long-lasting legacy for our sport.

There was a local connection as Enniscorthy’s Lisa Jacob provided expert analysis in the RTE studio alongside another former international, Kate Dillon. Over a ten-year international career, Lisa won in excess of 130 caps for Ireland.

With another huge season rapidly approaching for our five adult teams, pre-season training begins on Wednesday evening at the Astro Active Centre.

The women’s sides will be taking to the pitch from 7-8 p.m. while their male counterparts have the 8-9 p.m. slot.

The men’s first XI travel to Waterford for the annual McBride Cup fixture on September 1, while plans are afoot for friendlies for our other adult sides.

Our under-age training schedule is currently being prepared and should be released in the coming weeks.

O’Connor (14th) for second overall team. Dara Cloake, Adrian Doyle and Tomás Kavanagh also ran well for the men.

Special thanks to all the supporters that travelled and to Chairman Lukie Kehoe for all of the work he puts into the club. Many thanks as well to Elisa Leacy and Mag O’Leary-Doyle for the photographs. Well done everyone.

S.B.R. was also out in force on Sunday at the St. Patrick’s G.A.A. 5k Forest Run in Camolin Wood. Myles Gibbons took home top honours in 17:10 and was followed by Tommy Levingston in 20:10 and fourth overall.

Ray Byrne, Jimmy Doyle, Pat O’Neill, Lorcan Murphy, Claire Gibbons, Ciara Nolan, Mag O’LearyDoyle, Mairéad O’Neill, Tom Kavanagh, Tina Morris, Stephen O’Leary and Pat Crean all ran very well. It was good to see so many out in support.
