WANDERERSCRICKET

-

A wonderful evening of youths cricket took place at Carlow College ground on Tuesday as Wexford Wanderers Under-11s and Under-13s took on Carlow. Both games were exciting and close encounters which went down to the wire.

Wanderers Under-11s batted first and scored 81 runs off their 24 overs, with Rachel Kirwan, Laura and Harry Simmons, Luke Winter and Lucy Wise all batting very well.

In reply, tight bowing from Millie McGuire, Aoife McCabe, Katie Fenelon and Emma Winter ensured a close finish to the game.

With just one ball left, Carlow needed two runs to win, but good fielding from Wexford kept it down to just one run, which resulted in a tied game.

A special word of praise for skipper Seadh Bonnington who did an excellent job on the field of play.

The Under-14s fielded first as Carlow scored 61 runs off their 20 overs. Christopher Hill, Alexander Kirwan, Danny Codd and Enda Morgan were all brilliant in the field, with Tadgh and Eoin Bonnington, Kenul Senevirathna, Darragh Moran and Jack Wise all bowling well.

Kenul got reply off to a great start with two lovely boundaries in the first over. Despite losing a few quick wickets (three to run-outs), skipper Abban Moran steadied the ship and hit three boundaries to get within ten runs of victory.

Things became very tense as Mark Miller and Jack Wise played with great maturity, and it was left to Jack to hit the winning runs with a fine strike to the mid-wicket boundary.

Well done all, and to the parents for supporting and to Carlow for their wonderful hospitality.
