It was another great night for the Striders, with more success at the Wexford Intermediate road race.

Our ladies ran a great team race and bunched really well over the tough 4k course in Ballymurn to bring home a bronze medal.

Catríona McLoughlin was our first runner in and was followed closely by Sonia Byrne, Lettie Myers and Anastasia Cash. All four girls ran really well, against a big field, for a gritty third place result.

Our men’s team travelled to Ballymurn on the back of a really successful season. From the gun, the Striders were prominent, with Brendan Lyng, George Delaney and Paul Doran all in the lead bunch.

Seán Murphy was playing a cuter game and stayed off the lead pack in the early stages. As the hills started to take their toll, Brendan stamped his authority on the race and started to pull away at the midway stage.

Finishing strongly, Brendan landed a great victory, in some style. Just behind, George was battling gamely and was involved in a great sprint finish, taking third spot.

Meanwhile, Seán was slicing through the field just behind, passing runners all the way to the finish to get up for a great fifth spot.

Paul Doran was our fourth scorer just behind Seán, and thus Striders scooped the team gold.

Just behind the leading four Striders we had some serious talent coming through, in the shape of Pat Murray, Colin Kearney and Thomas Moran, who are all starting to put real pressure on our more established athletes.

Also part of the winning Striders squad were club legends John Kent, Pat Callaghan, Paul Colfer, Mick O’Gorman and Emmett Malone, who all made great contributions.

Well done to all Striders and supporters.
