Donohoe Motor Group in line to be sold to rival company Bolands

AFTER much speculation, it was confirmed last week that the Donohoe Motor Group at Quarrypark is to be sold. Although he refused to be drawn on the details, owner Dan Kickham confirmed that a deal was to be concluded shortly which would see the BMW, Mini, Skoda and Mercedes dealerships purchased by another party.
While there has been no confirmation, it is believed that the Motor Group is to be taken over by motor trade heavyweights the Bolands in a plan which will reportedly see Jim Boland, who operates BMW in Waterford, take over the BMW, while Ger Boland, who operates Skoda in Carlow, will take over the Skoda dealership.
It is understood that staff at all dealerships were informed of the situation last week, however, their fate remains somewhat unclear as both parties are remaining tight-lipped until the deal is concluded.
‘At the moment, I’ve no comment to make,’ said owner Dan Kickham.
‘ There are a couple of things still to be finalised and a few details to be ironed out still. It’s all good from a business point of view though. It’s getting to the stage where, at my age, I’ll be looking to take a back seat.’
Mr Kickham, pictured, said that the deal would affect BMW, Mini, Skoda and Mercedes, but said that Donohoe Agri would be maintained.
‘Things will happen pretty soon,’ he said. ‘But there are a few small hurdles to overcome yet.’
