Strictly fundraiser is massive success
THERE were great celebrations at Treacy’s Hotel last week as the winners of The Strictly Come Dancing Pub Edition were officially presented with their trophy and Slaney Search and Rescue were presented with a whopping €8,800 raised by the event.
Taking place over two nights, the dance competition saw representatives from pubs across Enniscorthy square off on the dancefloor, as well as attempting to raise as much funds as possible for an extremely worthy cause.
The idea was the brainchild of Alan O’Brien and he was delighted with the support the initiative received right across town and the two nights of great entertainment that were provided.
After some tense dance-offs, the panel of judges - Paddy Reville, Velma Baikiene and Bridie O’Connor - decided that the overall winners were Mary Murphy and PJ Leacy who had wowed audiences with their moves.
‘The were deserving winners,’ said Alan.
‘They put in an awful lot of hard work and it really showed on both nights.’
The pair were presented with the Harry O’Connor Memorial Trophy, in memory of the Slaney Search & Rescue founder, by Harry’s wife Bridie who congratulated them.
A cheque was then presented to Slaney Search & Rescue volunteers who were over the moon and stated that it would go a long way towards keeping them going for the coming year.
Once again Alan thanked everyone who contributed and took part on the night and everyone is now already looking forward to the second Strictly event which is to take place in October of next year.
