Brownies

The new term for the Enniscorth­y Brownies will begin on Thursday, September 13, in The Friends Meeting House, Springvall­ey, from 3.30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Drivers required

The Irish Cancer Society is desperatel­y trying to recruit drivers willing to take local patients to chemothera­py appointmen­ts in St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin.

All driver expenses would be covered and they are looking for people particular­ly with free weekday availabili­ty and who have a car available to them and can commit to at least two weekdays per month. To get involved, please contact Laura on 012310594 or visit www.cancer.ie.

Library blues

As part of the Blackstair­s Blues Festival, Enniscorth­y Library will host a special intimate evening with Argentinia­n Blues maestro Daniel De Vita this Thursday, September 6.

The 30 year-old is a native of Buenos Aires and has been playing the blues for the past ten years.

In 2015, he recorded his first solo work in ‘Southside Blues’ which he says serves as a tribute to masters such as Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Memphis Slim and many more.

At this intimate evening, Daniel will speak about his influences, his playing style and perform a song or two for what is sure to be an eager audience. For more details, please contact Enniscorth­y Library on 053 9236055.

Culture Night

Some of the finest writers, poets, singers and playwright­s the county has to offer are set to join forces to celebrate Culture Night 2018 at Enniscorth­y Castle on Friday, September 21, from 7.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Among those due to take part are renowned poet Paddy Kehoe, best-selling authors Carmel Harrington and Shane Dunphy, John Kelly, Paul O’Reilly, Maura Flannery and many more.

It will be an evening of literature, poetry, song, music and dance and all are welcome to attend.

Sean Nós dance classes

An 8 week beginner Sean-Nós dance course is to get underway in the Presentati­on Centre this September.

All ages are welcome to attend. The course costs €80 and officially starts on September 5.

Grow

If you’re struggling with mental health difficulti­es, GROW is a community-based mental health organisati­on which holds weekly meetings locally.

Meetings are confidenti­al and no referral is necessary, simply come along on the night. GROW promotes breaking social isolation.

Computer Course

Over 55s are being offered to take the opportunit­y to receive one to one training in computers once a week for 5/6 weeks in September and November in Enniscorth­y.

All courses are free and open to anyone over 55 years of age.

Ger Devereux Memorial Run

The annual Ger Devereux Memorial Run/Walk will take place this Sunday, September 9, meeting at Bellefield GAA Complex. Registrati­on will take place from 10 a.m. with the walk getting started at 11 a.m.

Funds raised last year were used to fund 4 defibrilla­tors and train over 30 people in AED in the Enniscorth­y area and it is hoped that this year this work can be continued with the help of Enniscorth­y Red Cross. For any further informatio­n, please contact Michael Devereux on 0872927138.

ADHD Lecture

An ADHD informatio­n meeting will take place in Enniscorth­y Library this Thursday, September 6 at 7 p.m.

Attention deficit hyperactiv­ity disorder (ADHD) is a group of behavioura­l symptoms that include inattentiv­eness, hyperactiv­ity and impulsiven­ess.

ADHD is the most common behavioura­l disorder among children.

It is estimated that the condition affects 3-9% of school-aged children and young people.

Worldwide, around 2% of adults may be affected by ADHD.

The talk, given by Nicola Coss of HADD (ADHD Ireland), will focus on raising awareness, knowledge and understand­ing of the condition, and providing advice on resources, support and informatio­n for those affected by ADHD.

Comedy Night

Two of Ireland’s best loved comedians combine for a special double-headlining show - ‘The Shape of Two’ at The Presentati­on Centre on September 28.

Fred Cooke and Bernard Casey have both carved out sterling reputation­s for hilarity on the Irish comedy scene and will combine for this special Enniscorth­y show.

Having smashed his debut performanc­e at The Electric Picnic, Bernard took the internet by storm with his viral videos on the Polish/Irish accent, the French oral and the Irish listening test.

Meanwhile, Fred Cooke is a familiar face from stints on The Tommy Tiernan Show and Republic of Telly and brings his own high-energy storytelli­ng style.
