Work on town park resumes as contractors count costs
WHILE a lot has been written of the plight of sub-contractors working on the Loreto School in Wexford in the wake of now infamous collapse of UK construction giant Carillion and its knock-on effects, sub-contractors working on the Orchard Park project in Enniscorthy have also been burned for thousands of euro.
The Crawford Group were employed to complete the project which was just a few weeks away from completion in May of this year when the company went into examinership. As a result, work ground to a halt and ever since, the part-completed park has been lying vacant, waiting for the entire mess to be sorted out.
While Wexford County Council has confirmed that contractors were due back on site yesterday (Monday) to finish out the project, some of them have been left majorly out of pocket as a result of the Crawford collapse. Some of them are reported to be out of pocket to the tune of between €20,000 and €30,000, money that they feel they have little hope of seeing again.
Wexford County Council are hopeful that the project will be put firmly back on track this week with a lot of planting scheduled to take place over the coming weeks.
‘We’re delighted that the project is back on track,’ said District Manager Liz Hore. ‘A lot of the work on the park had already been done and we were able to bring one of the contractors back in to continue working on the park. We’re hoping to get things close to finished before the winter weather sets in and we hope it will be open before the end of the year, but this may be put back until there’s a stretch in the evenings again at the start of next year.’
