Archers on target in major competition
ARCHERS from across County Wexford had a very successful trip to Inverness, Scotland, to participate in UKIFAC 2018 United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Field Archery Championships (UKIFAC) 2018.
The hosting of the two day competition rotates annually around the five nations involved, Northern Ireland last year, Scotland, this year and Wales next year.
Archers from a number of clubs represented the Republic in Inverness and brought home medals in a variety of categories.
Mark Daly, a Dunbrody stalwart, won gold in the adult male bowhunter recurve category with Laois Archery based Tony Eady getting a silver. The corresponding adult female result was a County Wexford clean sweep with Lynn Ellingworth of Wexford Archers taking the gold medal and Helen Kavanagh and Catherine Power of Dunbrody Archers bringing home the silver and bronze respectively.
Two Dunbrody members also battled it out for honours in the young adult male bowhunter recurve category. Kevin Power and Cian Kehoe shadowed one another over the course of the two days with Kevin finally pipping Cian for the gold medal.
Amy Kehoe came away with a silver medal in the junior (13-16 year old) female category while her younger brother Darragh was delighted to take home a gold medal in the cub (7-12 year old) male category.
To cap a great weekend’s results, the Republic of Ireland team made up of the above mentioned Mark, Tony and Lynn together with Martin Moylan of Dunbrody Archers and Don Bradley of Wexford Archers took home the bronze medal.
After a short summer break, club nights will resume in the Youth Centre on Tuesday, September 4, between 7.30 p.m. and 9.30 p.m.
