Skittle teams delighted with win

- By SARA GAHAN

After a month of intense rivalry, the winners in the annual Browne’s skittles tournament in Gorey were finally determined last week.

In the ladies, Division 1 was won by The Breens who beat Porter’s of Killenagh, while in Division 2 The Five Chicks beat Starlights. In the men’s, Division 1 was won by ‘Mosies Boys’ who were up against ‘Coolgreany Boys’, while in Division 2 the ‘Hillview Alcos’ beat ‘Jason Dunne Crew’.

A total of eight ladies team took part in this year’s final, each one competing twice because of low numbers, while 49 men’s team from far and wide competed in the competition. Organiser Margaret Boland said they aim to build on the women’s teams for the following year.

‘Unfortunately teams pulled out due to certain circumstances and could not make the final,’ added Margaret.

However, Margaret was delighted to report that everyone had great fun and enjoyed the friendly competition.

‘Everyone had a great time,’ she said, thanking Chris Donoghue, Ollie Hall, Pat Fortune, Stephen Donohoe, and Joe Browne for all their help.

The weather was great most evenings, with only a couple of nights where there was drizzle, but this did not affect play. A big thank you went to all involved over the summer.

The competition has been a Gorey tradition for a total of 49 years.
