NEW ROSS SENIORS

-

On a perfect second-last day of August, we had the biggest turn-out of the season with 15 teams taking part in our weekly competition which was the favoured champagne scramble format.

On a course coming back to its usual standard with greens in immaculate condition, we had a battle royal before the winners could be confirmed.

Eleven of the 15 competing teams broke the 90 points mark, and three finished deadlocked on 96 points each, therefore taking several countbacks before the winners were known.

The three-person team of Peter Goggin (18), Dan Quigley (20) and Aidan O’Connor (20) took the honours, scoring 96 points and with a better back nine of 51 points against the runners-up’s 47 points.

Second were Dick Cuddihy (12), Kevin Treacy (18), Brian Dolan (21) and Jamesie Wallace (22), also with 96 points, pipping Michael Kavanagh (16), Willie Whitty (18) and Tom Furlong (26) into third place with a better score over the last six holes (32/29).

Nearest the pin prizes were won by Ollie Brennan on the ninth hole and Tony Sexton on the eleventh.

A memo to all players who finish nearest the pin: kindly mark the distance and the relevant hole clearly on the top of your scorecard to avoid confusion.

On the board for September are Donie Cody, Richie Byrne and Billy Redmond.
