Matchplay final: Philip Moore overcame Eugene O’Brien Snr. on the 17th to win.

Wednesday nine-hole competitio­n (mixed): 1, Anne Breen (36), 19 points; 2, Brian Brooking (16), 19 points; 3, Sammy Walker (7), 19 points, holding off Stephen Greene on countback.

Marty Lawlor, club Captain, saw a very big turn-out for his Captain’s prize on Saturday. Damp conditions early on gave way to good weather and, with the course in perfect condition, the scoring in was good.

Anthony Fortune, club Treasurer, had an excellent 80 for nett 66 and won first prize. Reuben Dover (15) shot 82 for second, while Robbie Kehoe (13) was third with 81.

Bob Kelley (12) was fourth with 80, and Kevin Byrne (20) was fifth with 88. Mark Sinnott (21) was sixth with 89, Ian Winters (15) was seventh with 83, and Edward Burke (17) was eighth with 85.

The back nine winner was John Sunderland, and the front nine winner was Garry Doyle.

The gross prize went to Sammy Walker who held off Richard McDonald on countback. Both shot 79, the only ones to break 80 out of a big field.

A very enjoyable prize-giving night was held in the Taravie in Courtown on Saturday with music by Street Legal.

Sunday’s singles stableford was won by Robbie Kehoe (12) on 36 points. Brian Hayes (17) was second with 34 points.
