COURTOWN LADIES

-

Tuesday, August 28, brought another of our terrific sponsors to the club. Place Boutique have been sponsoring our ladies’ competitions for a few years now and we are extremely grateful for the sponsorship.

Julianna Moore of Place Boutique always gives us a reason to go out and play good golf. It’s a day when you hope the drives will go straight, the chips will run up to the hole, and the putts will drop.

Results: 1, Caroline Hewitt (5), 38 points; 2, Katie O’Hart (4), 38 points (countback); 3, Sarah Donnellan (6), 37 points; Cat. A, Catherine Quinn (17), 35 points; Cat. B, Cecilia O’Riordan (24), 36 points; Cat. C, Bríd Lillis (33), 34 points; nine-hole competition: 1, Celine O’Riordan (26), 19 points; 2, Muriel Richards (28), 19 points (countback).

Helen Cole scored a hole-in-one on the 14th - congratulations to Helen and to all our winners.

Saturday, September 1, saw Laura Funge and our Junior foursomes team head to Tullamore to play in the district finals against a strong Wicklow team.

Catherine Quinn and Mary Osborne were the first two into the fray followed by Stella Courtney and Mary Kilbride, with Mairéad Sunderland and Julie McCartan being the final pair.

A tough, nail-biting, tension-filled and very close set of matches played out over the afternoon, with the first pair going all the way to 20th hole before a result was reached.

Courtown ladies won the two matches required to claim victory. Congratulations to both teams for the golfing display, the courtesy and fairness shown to one another throughout the matches.

Both sets of supporters were equally fair, friendly and courteous, all of which contributed to a wonderful afternoon on the course.

Courtown now go to Knightsbrook representing the district in the A.I.G. All-Ireland finals at the end of the month. Good luck ladies, keep playing well.

September 15 and 16 will see us play Ryder Cup - Courtown style. We need 36 ladies and 36 men to complete the teams which will be drawn the previous week.

Saturday morning will see 36 members of the teams playing mixed foursomes, and Saturday afternoon will see the remaining 36 team members play mixed fourball.

On Sunday morning everybody will tee-off with a shotgun start in singles. Lunch will be served after the singles on Sunday, followed by the presentation.

The only question is - will you be playing for Europe or the U.S.A.? You will just have to wait and see.

Register your interest in playing and pay your fee with the guys in the Pro Shop.
