Wexford excels at life-saving event
COUNTY Wexford was very well represented at this year’s National Junior Surf Life-saving Championships with a number of the Model County’s representatives coming away with gold, silver and bronze medals.
The competition was organised by Irish Water Safety and a spokesperson for the Wexford branch of the organisation said the local participants put in some brilliant displays.
‘ There were great performances by everyone with loads coming through heats to finals and taking home lots of medals,’ she said.
Priya Daly- O’Toole shone for Wexford in the 14-year-olds section winning gold on the boards and silver in the Swim.
Keeping success in the family, her brother Doran took silver in the 12-year-old boys’ Surf Swim category while Bo Fleming secured a similar second-place finish in the Rescue Board race for 10-year-olds.
At Junior level Conor Brennan brought home the gold in the Sprint while Ross O’Loughlin took bronze in the boards section.
Ross and John Milne also secured 1st and 2nd place finishes in the 14 to 16-year-old Ski category which meant they also finished up in 4th and 5th places overall in the 14 to 18-year-old section.
It was a very good result for the two 15-year-old athletes who have a bright future ahead of them.
‘ There was great excitement at the Taplin with the Wex A team coming in second place,’ said the spokesperson.
‘Ava Ryan (15) came sixth in the final of the women’s Ski which was again a terrific result for one of our younger competitors in an experienced field,’ she added.
