Our Intermediate hurlers lost out to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown in the championship by three points. Unfortunately the lads will find it hard to qualify. We need to defeat Monageer by 10 points to get fourth and hope Cushinstown get bet. If we defeat Monageer and Cushinstown defeat St James we will stay up. They play the final against Monageer this Sunday at 3.30 p.m. in Farmleigh.

The minor hurlers caused a stunning upset by defeating last year’s Premier champions Naomh Eanna in the premier Quarter Final in a packed blackwater pitch. The boys had a dream start goaling after five minutes. Tomas Murphy broke free and soloed through to drive the ball into the net, giving the boys a two point lead. Johnny, Mossy and Pad kept the scoreboard ticking over while Mossy scored three in a row before the 20th minute mark. Gorey though were staying in touch and goaled after Adam Cullen did well to save in the goal and the teams were level at half time.

Gorey were reduced to 14 men with 10 and from the resulting free, Adam Murphy dropped the ball into the box with Shane Lynch getting the knock down, Brian Óg had a bit of work to do but managed to turn his defender and shot low to the bottom corner, resulting in a large roar from the crowd. We were seven in front by the 14th minute and things looked good but Gorey finally had their purple patch, scoring six unanswered points in a row. The lads put in a serious defensive shift for the last seven minutes with Adam Murphy dominating at full back ably assisted by Ben Cullen and James Cullen on the corners. Gorey were still dangerous and scored a penalty. With only two minutes left we needed another big push, we won precious free from near the sideline from distance. Pad though was the coolest man on the field as he dispatched it over the bar to leave a heart stopping last few minutes including injury time. So we are just 60 minutes from reaching a premier county final.

Under-13 hurlers defeated Naomh Eanna also to qualify for the Division One Shield Final.

Under-15 hurlers has a disappointing game when they exited the championship to Horeswood at the quarter final stage.

Football development officer Anthony Masterson visited the club and did a coaching session with the under-11s and under-nines.

The under-sevens played in a blitz in Pairc Garman where they defeated Crossabeg-Ballymurn and Oulart-The Ballagh but just lost out to Faythe Harriers.

No winner of the lotto with the numbers drawn were 5, 9, 23 and 25 and bonus 16. Luckydip winners were Aidan Whelan, Kealan Fikentscher, Edel O’Brien, Pad, Adam and Eoin O’Connor (who will claim that ticket), Linda O’Connor and the seller’s prize Pad O’Connor.

Well done to our county men Liam Lynch, Ciaran Cash, Rían Salmon and Brian Óg Curran, who was wing back on the team that won the under-15 John Doyle Cup.

The junior b hurlers lost out in the District semi-final to St Anne’s. The lads were down a number of key players and lost out by four points.
