Councillors: keep us in the loop on town developments

-

THE members of Enniscorthy Municipal District Council have requested that they are kept up to date regarding any developments on major sites of interest around the town. Cllr Keith Doyle said that while he understood they were private sites, he wondered if there were any updates on St Senan’s Hospital, the Old Dunnes Stores building on Rafter Street and the Murphy Floods site.

‘I know there are talks ongoing, but if there were any updates, I think it would be beneficial if we were kept in the loop,’ he said.

Director of Services John Carley said that as they were private sites, they were limited in the information they could obtain, but he said he would do his best to keep members updated with any developments as they arise.

Initial works have begun on the Old Dunnes site after it was purchased by local developer Martin Sinnott and talks are ongoing to secure tenants for the retail space there.

The Murphy Floods site has left a huge hole in Enniscorthy town centre since the busy hotel burned down in 2005 and rumours have circulated that Mr Sinnott may be involved in developing this site too.

Meanwhile, the old St Senan’s Hospital was purchased by a consortium headed by Bree businessman Eamonn Galavan of NitroFert in December of last year with the goal of converting the building into luxury apartments. However, it seems like there has been little progress on the project thus far.
