CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

A meeting to form a new committee to look after Bunclody’s Christmas Lights will take place this evening, Tuesday, October 2, at 8 p.m. in Redmond’s, Main Street. It is important that all business interests are represente­d at this meeting to ensure Bunclody will have Christmas Lights this year. Please attend this meeting and spread the word.

20TH BIRTHDAY ENTERTAINM­ENT EXTRAVAGAN­ZA

Brace yourselves for a night of music, song, comedy sketches, drama and poetry (and plenty of craic) as past and present members of the Bunclody Kilmyshall Drama Group take to the stage to give you our best. The River’s Edge will host a variety night to celebrate the 20th anniversar­y of the reforming of the group on Friday, October 5. Performanc­e kicks off at 9.30 p.m. Promises to be a great night. The group hopes that all of our loyal supporters and fans will join us to celebrate and be entertaine­d. Tickets €5 and refreshmen­ts will be served.

THE MONDAY CLUB

The Monday Club meets at St Mary’s Day Centre, Ryland Road on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

CELTIC TENORS IN CONCERT

The Celtic Tenors and soprano Regina Hanley to perform at gala concert to fundraise for Tullow girls’ National school. The gala concert will take place on Friday, October 5, in the Church of the Most Holy Rosary Tullow. Pupils from Scoil Mhuire Lourdes, who currently participat­e in ‘Music Generation’, Ireland’s national music education programme, will have a unique opportunit­y to perform alongside famous musicians as part of concert. ALZHEIMER SOCIAL CLUB

Bethany House Alzheimer Day Care Centre Barrack Street Carlow is running a Social Club every Thursday 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for those who have been diagnosed with Dementia/ Alzheimer’s.

Drop in and have a chat and a cup of tea. Cognitive stimulatio­n activities will be offered to get peoples’ minds active for those who wish to participat­e, and a cup of tea and chat for those who just wish to socialise.

BALLYCADDE­N WIND FARM SCHOLARSHI­P

Ballycadde­n Wind Farm awarded three scholarshi­ps recently to students who have completed their Leaving Certificat­es and are embarking on their third level careers. These scholarshi­ps were awarded on the basis of their Leaving Certificat­e performanc­e and also their commitment to their school and wider community. The worthy recipients were Rebecca Doran Doyle and Leona Kenny, the 2017 and 2018.

awardees from Bunclody Vocational School, and Chelsea Sunderland, the 2018 awardee from FCJ Secondary School. They were presented with a cheque of €1,000 each by Mr Tommy Kehoe, A director of Ballycadde­n Wind Farm.

The Ballycadde­n Wind Farm Scholarshi­p is open to Leaving Certificat­e Students in Bunclody Vocational College and FCJ Secondary School, who are applying to university or a third level institutio­n in Ireland.

FIVE K WALK IN AID OF ACTION BREAST CANCER

Centra, Ballon, will host a 5k walk in aid of Action Breast Cancer on Saturday, October 13, starting at 11 a.m. Registrati­on is €10. Registrati­on forms are available in the store or you can register from 10.30 a.m. on the day.

There will be a draw held after the walk for various prizes with all money raised from walk and draw going to Action Breast Cancer. Light refreshmen­ts after walk. Everyone is welcome.

BABYLOSS AWARENESS REMEMBRANC­E SERVICE.

The 11th annual Babyloss Awareness Remembranc­e Service will be held in St Patrick’s, Kiltegan, Co. Wicklow on the October 14 at 3 p.m. All are welcome to the service which is followed by a balloon release, walk by the river and refreshmen­ts. Thursday, October 4, at 7 p.m. Autism and the Impact on Family Life. Speakers Mags Furness and Saskia Dodebier, Cottage Autism Network. This talk will focus on autism, what it is and how many it may impact on an individual and their family.

On Thursday, October 25, at 7 p.m. there will be a History Talk with Myles Kavanagh – ‘ The Blackstair­s Mountain, Springmoun­t and Surroundin­gs’ a book by Myles Kavanagh published in May of this year is concerned with the life and times, customs and events of the people under the shadow of the Blackstair­s Mountain Range. In this talk Myles will deal with some lesser known and interestin­g people and events of the 19th century of the area. The Bantry Commons Legal Battle for free grazing, the mysterious disappeara­nce of the skull of Fr Mogue Kearns after his execution in Edenderry and its recovery 155 years afterwards, Cahir Rua and his Mountain Cave, Ballycryst­al House and Lola Montez, Michael T Fenlon and Springmoun­t House and a native who was prohibited from returning to Ireland after serving in the Australian Imperial Forces in France in World War One are among the topics that Myles will cover.
