ENNISCORTHY RUGBY

-

The Enniscorthy Under-18 girls had a great game on Saturday against New Ross on home ground.

The girls came off at half-time down by 16 points to five. They went back to battle and emerged victors in the end 24-16.

Faye Larkin scored the first try in the first-half, while Bonnie Kinnaird scored three tries and Faye converted two after the break. Well done girls.

Arklow 17, Enniscorthy 74: The Enniscorthy Under-16 girls’ rugby team travelled north to Arklow on Sunday for this South-East league match with a near full-strength squad, and it showed as they overwhelmed a very young and inexperienced home side by twelve tries to three.

The half-time score of 29-17 was a fair reflection of play, with Arklow retaining possession well and asking plenty of questions, scoring two tries in first-half injury time to punish some ’Scorthy indiscipline.

The second-half was all one way as Arklow fell off tackle after tackle and the Ross Roaders were able to demonstrate their superior passing and off-loading game to great effect.

Chief try scorers for Enniscorthy were excellent scrum-half Katie Whelan with four touchdowns, Miria O’Dowd with three including two great solo efforts.

Flying full-back Lauren Delaney capped a great display with a fine try, while captain Mia Kelly got one following a great off-load by Aoife Codd who also touched down.

Hooker Lucy Egan showed great pace for her try and substitute Chloe McGrath scored after more great work from Mia Kelly who also kicked seven conversions following her amazing display the previous week, landing eleven kicks from twelve attempts.
