NEW ROSS SENIORS

-

After being rained off the previous week, we were treated to a beautiful autumnal day on Thursday, with the sunshine rays of an Indian summer beaming down on us - weather more akin to the month of May rather than the dying embers of September.

After the recent sanding and coring of the course, conditions were that little bit more difficult and scores were hard to come by, with players leaving their approach shots well short of the green with no run on the ball.

Still, it was a level playing field for all twelve teams taking part and as usual there was one fourball which literally ran away from the field. In fact, they had six points to spare over their nearest challengers.

Carding 50 points on the outward nine and adding 49 points on the homeward stretch, the grand total of 99 points from Dick Cuddihy (12), Jamesie Wallace (22), Martin Hartley (22) and Les Jastrebski (25) proved to be a clear winner.

Second on 93 points came Tony Harford (14), Willie Naddy (20), John Joe Murray (21) and Martin Burke (25). One point behind on 92 were Alan Treacy (12), Pat Traynor (18), John Fitzpatrick (19) and Brian Dolan (21) - it was nice to see our visitor, Alan Treacy from Tramore, pick up a prize.

We had only one nearest the pin winner and that was a fine effort (41 inches from the cup) by Brian Dolan on the ninth hole.

To avoid confusion in this nearest the pin prize, all players involved are asked to clearly mark the relevant distance from the pin they have on the score card.

On the board for October are Denis Kirwan, Willie Whitty and Larry Shannon.

Our annual trip to our Senior friends in Faithlegg will be coming up shortly, with full details later.
