Lobster Pot fails to sell at auction
An auctioneer is in talks with interested parties regarding the sale of the Lobster Pot restaurant and bar in in Carne which went under the hammer last week but did not sell at auction.
There was a good turn-out at the public auction held in the offices of Kehoe and Associates and while there were no bids on the day, the auctioneer Colum Murphy said he is confident the well-known premises will be sold. The award-winning property including fully-fitted bar, restaurants, a separate bunga- low residence and a public car park across the road, was placed on the market with a guide price of €650,000. The owners Ciaran and Anne Hearne who developed and operated the business successfully for the past 35 years, have decided to retire but plan to continue living locally.
The Lobster Pot was opened by the Wexford couple in 1983 and became one of the best known licensed premises in Ireland with a reputation which attracted customers from far and near. It is billed as a thriving business with a substantial turn-over.
‘We were looking for bids in and around the guide price’ said Mr. Murphy, managing director of the the auctioneering firm, adding that he is currently talking to a number of different interested parties. ‘ This can happen at an auction. Every property is different. Last month, we had two properties withdrawn at auction and deals have since been done. ‘We are confident it will sell’, he added.
