Rosslare Golf Club is represented at Fáilte Ireland tourism seminar

-

REPRESENTATIVES of Rosslare Golf Club were among those who attended a workshop at Failte Ireland’s headquarters in Dublin to gain insights into how they can best showcase their product to the international golf tourism market.

Matt Grannell and Paddy Lonergan were among representatives from golf clubs across the country who attended the workshop which was organised on conjunction with Golfbreaks.com.

The aim of the initiative was to provide golf club businesses with the expertise required to expand their customer base with a particular focus on attracting more international golf tourists.

Part of the workshop focussed attention on how clubs can tap into the latest customer demands and behaviours.

Those in attendance were told that modern golf tourists look for packages that are all-inclusive and not ones that just address their needs while out on the fairways.

Speaking about the event Failte Ireland’s Golf Ireland Manager, Martin Donnelly, said the sport plays a significant role in Irish tourism.

‘It’s important that we do all we can to support the industry to reach key overseas markets; helping to boost visitor numbers across the country,’ he said.

‘More-and-more, golfers are looking for holiday packages that cover their every need and this opens a massive opportunity for golf businesses to adapt their offering and drive revenue around tee time through hospitality and other activities,’ he added.

The workshop attendees were told that golf tourists expect their packages to include top quality accommodation, food and hospitality in addition to bespoke golf offerings.

It’s estimated that over 200,000 overseas visitors take part in golf during their visit to Ireland every year contributing over €270m to the economy.

Keith Mitchell, Chief Marketing Officer at Golfbreaks. com, said consumer demand is changing and stakeholders within the industry need to adapt and change accordingly.
