Coolgreany NIGHT OF COMEDY

Coolgreany Amateur Dramatic Society will be presenting a night of comedy at St Mogue’s Hall, Inch from Thursday to Sunday, October 4, to October 7 at 8 p.m., featuring two hilarious one-act plays.

‘Mr Foot’ is an inventive and engaging comedy by Michael Frayn. Directed by Sally Stevens, it features Maggie Murphy and Niall Hunter. This production is Coolgreany’s entry in the all-Ireland One Act Drama Circuit this year.

‘The Kiddermins­ter Affair’ by Alan Ayckbourn is an uproarious farce. Directed by Norah Finn, it features Frank Duffy, Billy Hutchinson, Fiona Cooney O’Gorman and Sheila O’Kelly.

This will be the only opportunit­y to see these great production­s locally in the near future, so don’t miss out on a great night’s entertainm­ent. Tickets will be available at the door or phone 087 2393651 for bookings.

At the conclusion of a very busy day the chairman Declan Finn said he was delighted everything went off so well, and he wanted to acknowledg­e the great support of so many people from all sectors of the community, who helped to make the day such an outstandin­g success, he said he would also like to thank the many people both young and not so young who attended to prepare the field on the previous evenings, and also for the cleaning up the field afterwards,

Thanks were extended to all the advertiser­s in the Gymkhana Book, He also acknowledg­ed the great work of the local Macra na Feirme branch, for their great support and for organising the barbecue, Declan extended a special thanks to the people who looked after the Raffle Tickets especially Vera Grogan, Coolgreany, Mary McCarthy, Fortcheste­r, and Noreen Kelly for their great help both on the field and also before the Gymkhana took place and also those who were involved in all the events on the field.

He said it was very important to acknowledg­e Declan and Oona Merrigan, who so kindly make their field available for the Gymkhana each year without which it not be possible to operate the Gymkhana, and also Gardiner Grain for their great support. Thanks also to the Local Press for their great support each year which was always very welcome, this year we were blessed with a beautiful day for everyone to enjoy a very successful Gymkhana he concluded.

VINTAGE DAY

Following on from the Recently Very Successful Vintage Day in Coolgreany, the organising committee will hold a Vintage Car and Tractor Run from Coolgreany on Sunday, October 28, assembling at 11 a.m. for a midday Sharp start, with a route still be finalised, and all proceeds going to Local Beneficiar­ies the committee have also fixed their second Vintage Day for Sunday, September 8, 2019.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to the Jackson families, Moneyribbo­n and Coolgreany, on the recent death of David Jackson, Croghan View Coolgreany, whose burial took place in Ballyfad Cemetery last Friday after Funeral Mass in Ballyfad Church.

The local community also extend their deepest sympathy to Peig O’Rafferty, O’Rafferty’s Coolgreany, on the recent death of her brother Tom Conroy Coolnaleen, Camolin, whose burial took place in the local cemetery after Mass in Ballyduff Church, Camolin, on last Sunday. RIP.

CraanfordM­onaseed MEMORIAL CLAY SHOOT

On September 23 a memorial clay shoot took place on Byrne’s land in Banntown in aid of St Luke’s and Beaumont Hospital and in memory of our dear friend Brian Dunbar.

Brian had organised a lot of the work prior to his untimely passing. With the support of his family and frineds and the community on Sunday all the hard work paid off as in bright sunshine over 170 participan­ts took part, with plenty of prizes donated for the shoot and the raffle from local businesses, family and friends. It was indeed a joyous occasion tinged with sadness but with immense pride in what had been achieved. Everyone enjoyed the banter and refreshmen­ts supplied.

A huge thank you to Brian’s family, relatives, friends, neighbours and the wider community, who supported the wishes of Brian and, who have so far raised over €6,800 for these two deserving causes.

CRAANFORD PLAYSCHOOL

Craanford-Monaseed Playschool invites parents, students, teachers – past and present to celebrate 20 years of providing education and care to the community, on Sunday, October 7, in Craanford-Monaseed Playschool from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will be a Magic show, face painting, fun and games.

SKYDIVE POSTPONED AGAIN

The skydive in aid of the sports complex was postponed once again due to the weather we await for it to be re scheduled.

ANNUAL CRAFT FAIR

Our annual craft fair takes place once again this year: Sunday, November 11, starting at 11 a.m. and will run till 3 p.m. approx. This craft fair has been very well supported in recent years with loads of crafts, home baking, home produce etc. being sold. KilanerinB­allyfad GAA CLUB NOTES

No jackpot winner in the lotto draw of the 24th. There was one match-three winner who gets €200. The numbers were 3, 20, 21 and 28. Next draw is on October 8. with a jackpot of €5,600.

The ladies’ football team played their final v Shels on Friday the 28th. The under-16 camogie team had their final on Sunday the 30th. And the senior footballer­s had their semi-final in Wexford park at 3 p.m. on Sun- day the 30th. See sports pages for results.

That leaves the under-13 hurlers in their final against Kilrush and the first adult hurling team who play Duffry in their semi-final on Sunday the seventh at 1.30 p.m. in Bellefield. Then it is back to under-20 men’s football and hurling.

Congratula­tions to the Tidy Towns Committee on reaching 300 marks for the first time. Due recognitio­n for all your work. The view of the pitches with the new lighting in place will enhance the village even more.

Team of the week goes to the under-12 camogie girls who won their county final last week. And to think that there were no camogie teams in either clubs at all only 3/4 years ago. Well done to all.
