Askamore SPLIT-THE-POT’

TABLE QUIZ

Carnew Musical Society will hold a table quiz in Kenny’s Carnew on Thursday night next October 4 at 9 p.m. Admission: €40 per team of Four People. Please come along for a fun night out and to support Carnew MS in fundraisin­g for their forth coming show My Fair Lady which will be staged in November.

ARTIST EXHIBITION

Arrangemen­ts are under way for an art exhibition in Askamore Community Centre from November 22 to November 25. We are calling on local Artists, in any medium, to contact Alison at 053 9414543 if you wish to participat­e.

FIRST AID COURSE.

First aid course in Askamore Activity Centre on Mondays in November. Course trainer: Shane Dunphy from AMPM Safety Training. This certified course will be relevant to all ages and sectors of our community; families – sports – farming etc. Cost €40 or €15 per night. Booking essential. Ph. QIGONG WEEKEND

Master qigong trainer Liz Jordan will be back in Askamore for a weekend of qigong healing, meditation and one-to-one consultati­ons from October 5 to October 8. See askamore.com for further details as they become availabe.

GAA LOTTO

There was no winner of our recent lotto draw. The numbers drawn were 6, 12, 24 and 29. The lucky-dip winners were Emma Tomkins, John Cosgrave, Tom Murphy c/o Coleman’s and Margaret Carton. Jimmy Ruth won the Sellers’ prize. Our next draw will be held in Coleman’s, Tombrack on Tuesday, October 9. The jackpot is now €4,500. €2 tickets are available from club players and members.

EXTRA LAND INFORMATIO­N HOUR

There will be a public meeting in Ballyroebu­ck Hall on Friday, October 5, at 8 p.m. regarding the potential purchase of extra land to facilitate the growing demand in our GAA and camogie clubs. Please come along to find out all about it and, hopefully, to get behind a project that will need the backing of the whole community.

KILRUSH DRAMA GROUP

The autumn Production the Tailor and Ansty by Eric Crosse will be staged in Ballyroebu­ck Hall from Tuesday, October 16, to Saturday, October 20. Mick Byrne will be directing and PJ Arthur will be playing the role of the Tailor. Kilrush Drama Group welcome Mary Earle back to the Ballyroebu­ck Stage in the role of the Tailor’s wife.

In addition, a short comedy sketch the Stuttering Lovers will be performed by Maurice Ruth, Kay Cahill, Séamus Burnell and Mairead Kinsella.

Ballyduff LADIES’ CLUB

The ladies’ club meet on the second Wednesday of every month. The next meeting is October 10 Meeting in Clonee GAA Complex from 8 p.m. Each month they try new things, listen to someone speaking about items of interest or giving demos, try an activity, make something new, go on outings or just come along for refreshmen­ts and a chat. New members are most welcome.

DEVELOPMEN­T GROUP

We are delighted to have achieved five extra points in this year’s Tidy Towns Competitio­n with the added bonus of being the runner-up for the second year in a row in the Can-It Award for ‘The Village’ Artwork made out of Aluminium cans and upcycled pallets which can be found in the school wildflower meadow.

The group continue to meet every Monday evening in the village to tidy the area and to work on new projects.

Last week our members had a nasty surprise when they emptied the batteries out of the Tin Man, among the batteries they found 121 disposable shavers. Please do not dispose of hazardous waste in the Tin Man as people may be injured trying to remove them. Our Tin Man is for used batteries only. All help and support is appreciate­d and we’re always delighted to see new faces.

CLONEE GAA FUN RUN

Our annual Clonee Underage Fun Run takes place on Sunday, October 7, starting at 1 p.m. Sponsorshi­p cards are doing the rounds at the moment so please support our underage teams if you can. There will be Bouncy Castles, barbecue and entertainm­ent back at Clonee GAA complex afterwards. Hope to see you there. All support greatly appreciate­d.

LADIES SHED

A new Ladies Shed is being establishe­d in Enniscorth­y for anyone interested in joining, meeting in the meeting room across from Church Street Church, Enniscorth­y on Thursday morning from 10 a.m. to midday.

RACE NIGHT

A very successful race night was held in Butlers Broadway on September 8. The organisers would like to thank everyone who sponsored races, bought horses and donated prizes. All proceeds go to the County Wexford Community Workshop in Enniscorth­y.

Boolavogue SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of the late Jackie Whelan RIP, Tomnalosse­tt and formerly of Ballyorley, who died on Saturday, September 22, in his 92nd year.

Jackie was predecease­d by his beloved wife Mary (Lily), his brother Greg and is mourned by his sons Joe, Christy and Edward, daughters Catherine, Patricia and Caroline, his brothers Tom, Ned and Laurence, sisters Lizzie, Maidie, Tot and Catherine, grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, son-in-law Tom, daughterin-law Sheila, extended family, neighbours and friends.

His remains were waked in his daughter Catherine’s residence in Ballyorley on Saturday and Sunday and removal to St Cormac’s church took place at 11.15 on Monday for Requiem Mass at midday, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

GAA NEWS

On Tuesday evening, September 25, the under-nine squad finished up their year’s training with a fun night. They took part in some great fun activities, losing to the parents in the tug-of-war but beating them in the hurling match, winning the game with a last minute goal. The 25 players were presented with wrist-bands and all thanked the coaches, Micheál Stafford, Micheál Somers, Ann and Noel Butler, Diarmuid O’Hanlon and Bobby Larkin for their dedication and hardwork.

Coiste na nÓg would like to thank Pettitt’s SuperValu, Enniscorth­y for their gendrous donation of 50 footballs to the club. Well done to the under-17 footballer­s who booked their place in the county final, beating Oylegate by 8-5 to 2-6.

SOCCER NEWS

The ladies’ team and the Men’s ‘A’ team were in action on Sunday the 23rd. And both managed to keep clean sheets, each team drawing 0-0. Éinín Rossiter was the player of the match in the ladies’ clash with Ajax.

The ‘ A’ team were at home to North End and were unlucky not to be a goal ahead early in play when a headed corner from Glenn McAvoy was saved by the crossbar. Jack White denied North End near half-time, killing off an attack that looked like giving them the lead. The second half see-sawed and in the end our lads were glad to share the points, having fielded an understren­gth team.

GAA LOTTO

The draw for the €4,900 Monageer-Boolavogue GAA lotto jackpot will take place tonight, Tuesday, October 2, at 9.30 p.m. in the New Clubhouse in Monageer. Tickets, costing only €2 each, can be purchased in the clubhouse immediatel­y before the draw.

CROSSCOUNT­RY FUN RIDE

MINISTERS OF THE WORD

On Saturday, October 6, Bernie Flood will be reading while Ann Whelan will be assisting at Communion at the 8.30 p.m. Vigil Mass in St Cormac’s church. On Sunday the 7th at the 11 a.m. Mass, the Minister for the Word is Ann O’Sullivan while Gay Gahan is Minister for the Eucharist.

PARENT/TODDLER GROUP

The group were delighted to welcome some new members to the fun and frolics on Wednesday last, September 26. The group meets in Boolavogue Hall each Wednesday between 9.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. and provides a great social activity for toddlers and parents alike.

Camolin GAA LOTTO

There was no jackpot winner last week; winning numbers were 7, 14, 19 and 25. Two match-three numbers each receive €100: Jodie and Alice, Paul Tobin.
