Gospel Choir

Enniscorth­y Gospel Choir are hoping to recruit some new members having just returned to rehearsals under new director Anita Mahon.

The choir recently got back together and wish to encourage new members to come and join them at rehearsals in the IFA Centre at 7.30 p.m. each Wednesday night.

A lively group, the choir performs at concerts, weddings, masses and local events and the members’ song repertoire ranges from pop and folk tracks to well-known gospel songs and hits from movies.

ADHD support

The Parents ADHD support group will host a meeting in Enniscorth­y Library on Thursday, October 11, from 7 p.m. till 8.30 p.m.

A five week parenting course is also to be offered by Wexford Mental Health Associatio­n on Henrietta Street in Wexford beginning on Wednesday, November 10.

Community Watchgroup

St Aidan’s Neighbourh­ood Watch is looking for at least four people to help out with nightly patrols in an attempt to create two new teams to ensure the area is well patrolled over the winter nights.

Each volunteer will be given a high visibility vest and a rechargeab­le flash lamp.

New members are desperate- ly sought as the group covers a large area with a lot of elderly residents. If you are interested, please contact chairman Bernard O’Leary on 085 1088163.

Exhibition

The Presentati­on Centre is delighted to host a new exhibition of work from Wexford born artist Kate Tyrell.

This is Kate’s first solo exhibition and is generating quite a bit of interest. Her work with found objects, in particular organic materials, has blurred the lines between craft and visual art many times and this has come to fruition with this wonderful exhibition ‘Found’. The exhibition will be available to view at the Presentati­on Centre until October 26. For more details contact The Presentati­on Centre.

Drivers required

The Irish Cancer Society is desperatel­y trying to recruit drivers willing to take local patients to chemothera­py appointmen­ts in St Vincent’s Hospital in Dublin. All driver expenses would be covered and they are looking for people particular­ly with free weekday availabili­ty and who have a car available to them and can commit to at least two weekdays per month. Grow

If you’re struggling with mental health difficulti­es, GROW is a community-based mental health organisati­on which holds weekly meetings locally. Meetings are confidenti­al and no referral is necessary, simply come along. GROW promotes breaking social isolation.

Meetings take place on Mondays at 7.30 p.m. in The Presentati­on Centre, Convent Road.

Folk Group

St Aidan’s Cathedral Folk Group started back up on Saturday and are looking to recruit some new members. Mainly for secondary school pupils, the group welcomes all with open arms.

Rehearsals take place from 6 p.m. each Saturday of the school year and there are no auditions. For more informatio­n, please contact Colm on 0872041879. Plans are also in place to reform a senior folk group. Anyone interested in getting involved is also asked to call Colm for details.

Retirement Associatio­n

A members’ meeting will take place on the first Tuesday of each month at the Riverside Hotel at 2.30 p.m.

The associatio­n provides an very important social outlet for its members and it’s well known for being one of the most active organisati­ons of its type in the county.

Ongoing activities are as follows: Monday – line dancing at 11 a.m. at Astro Active Centre; Indoor bowls at 1 p.m. at Astro Active Centre. Wednesday: Walk at 11 a.m. from Riverside Hotel; Pitch and Putt at 10.30 a.m. at St Patrick’s Pitch and Putt course on Wednesday and Friday; table quiz at 2.30 p.m. every second Wednesday at Loreto Village. Thursday – Ramblers’ walk at 9.30 a.m. from LIDL car park; Scrabble at 10 a.m. at Astro Active Centre.

Alcohol supportgro­up

Gorey and Enniscorth­y Family Support Group provides support for those faced with problems with alcohol or drug use by a family member. Meetings take place weekly. Phone 085-8053978.

Parish help

St Aidan’s Parish is still on the lookout for volunteers to help out at the cathedral. Particular­ly sought are church cleaners willing to give one hour of their time each month.

Volunteers are particular­ly needed from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturday mornings after 10 a.m. Mass.

Basket collectors are being sought for the 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday Masses each week and Eucharisti­c Ministers are required for several Masses.

If you can help out and feel you can give a little bit of your time to the local community please drop into the parish office or call 053-9235777.

All offers of help will be greatly appreciate­d by the parish committee.

2019calend­ar

The St Senan’s Parish Calendar for 2019, featuring some stunning photos of Enniscorth­y, is now on sale.

The calendar can be purchased from the parish office, the sacristy after Mass, O’Callaghan’s Centra or by calling Liz Wildes on 087-9151815.

The calendar was a big hit last year and once again all photos have graciously been provided by Liz.

Volunteers needed

Volunteers are being sought to help and support a number of Syrian and Iraqi families that have arrived in Enniscorth­y.

People are sought to help them with their English, to befriend them and to help with homework club.

Church Choir

The St Senan’s Church Choir is back in business after their break.

As always, the choir is keen to recruit new members and it’s a great time of year to get involved.

Singers and musicians, male and female, are required and all are welcome to come along and try it out.

Dumping at graveyards

An ongoing problem with dumping at both Enniscorth­y Cemetery and St Mary’s Cemetery over a prolonged period of time has led to both parishes pleading with people to do their bit to keep the place clean and tidy. People are urged to dispose of their rubbish in the correct manner in the bins provided or to bring it home with them and also to respect the property of others when visiting the graveyard.

A Night of Two Halves

Stephen Murphy in conjunctio­n wit the Tony Ryan School of Music is proud to present ‘A Night of Two Halves’ at The Riverside Park Hotel on Sunday, October 21.

The first half of the night will be a cabaret showcasing some of Wexford’s finest up and coming talent while the second half will have you rocking to the rockabilly sounds of Little Stevie and Mystery Train.

Bibi Baskin

The people of Enniscorth­y are being encouraged to make the journey north to Gorey for a special evening with motivation­al/wellness speaker and former TV and Radio presenter Bibi Baskin at The Ashdown Park Hotel on Tuesday, October 23 at 7.30 p.m.

On the night, Bibi will discuss life, wellness, wisdom, stress management and much more.

Tickets for this event are available locally from The Wilds Café on Wafer Street priced at €20.

Carrun

Huge crowds are expected at the Mart on the Old Dublin Road on Sunday morning as vintage and classic cars from all over the country arrive for the annual Gerard Murphy Memorial Run. Over 500 cars are expected on the day and there will also be plenty of other en- tertainmen­t with live music, trade stalls and the all important raffle, which this year sees a MK2 Escort 1600 Sport and a ‘92 Celica Soft Top among the prizes.

Cars will begin to arrive for registrati­on from 11 a.m. and all money raised goes to Slaney Search & Rescue and The Local Hub, Glenbrohan­e, Co Limerick. The cost of entry for cars is €20 and this includes a food voucher and a special driver’s pack. Clothes drive

There will be a clothes drive in aid of Ballycanew National School on Monday, October 22.

The initiative is being organised to raise money for the school.

People are being asked to donate all their unwanted new and used, clean clothes including paired shoes, towels, belts, handbags, household textiles and stuffed toys.

Items can be dropped into the General Purpose Hall on Friday, October 19, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and on Monday, October 22, from 9.30 a.m.

Silver circle fundraiser

A fundraisin­g initiative has been launched in Ballymurn to raise money for the constructi­on of a new community centre in Garry william.

The Silver Circle draw is a series of 12 monthly draws and one bumper one confined to the holders of 400 tickets sold.

There will be five €200 prizes up for grabs each month. The bumper draw will have a prize pot of €10,000.
