Wexford students to represent Ireland in the US
TWO county Wexford students will represent Ireland in the United States of America at the Enactus World Cup as part of the Dublin City University (DCU) team.
Terence Rooney from Gorey is Chairman of the Enactus DCU team and Aisling Fagan from Wexford town will also be a part of the group, having been elected as vice president of the DCU student union.
The team travelled to Silicon Valley in California and will present their projects on the international stage today (Tuesday), until Thursday, October 11.
The projects that they will present include Threads, a project that empowers people seeking asylum in Ireland through the up-cycling of unwanted jeans to create customised denim clothing; GiveBack.ie, a chrome extension that directs a portion of money spent in online retailers towards tackling homelessness; and Second Scoop, a project that provides work experience, training and mentoring opportunities to people seeking asylum in Ireland through a mobile pop-up ice cream vendor, targeting corporate, social and educational events.
The Enactus programme brings together students, academics and business leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to solve challenges in local communities.
Earlier this year, Enactus DCU was crowned the 2018 Enactus Ireland National Champions. When in California, the DCU team will showcase the three projects that they hope will see them fight off competition from 35 countries.
