Coming up in Bunclody Library this October – Saturday, October 13, from 11.30 a.m, to 12.30 p.m. for eight- to 12-year-olds: Use, Re-Use. Re-use Month Library workshop 2018. In this Re-use month workshop artist Órla Bates shows how with a bit of imaginatio­n and creativity, rubbish can be reused to make amazing works of art. Discover how to re-use lots of discarded and found materials, straight out of the bin to create a unique collagraph print of a real or imagined character. Booking essential.

On Thursday, October 25, at 7 p.m. there will be a History Talk with Myles Kavanagh – ‘ The Blackstair­s Mountain, Springmoun­t and Surroundin­gs’ a book by Myles Kavanagh published in May of this year is concerned with the life and times, customs and events of the people under the shadow of the Blackstair­s Mountain Range. In this talk Myles will deal with some lesser known and interestin­g people and events of the 19th century of the area. The Bantry Commons Legal Battle for free grazing, the mysterious disappeara­nce of the skull of Fr Mogue Kearns after his execution in Edenderry and its recovery 155 years afterwards, Cahir Rua and his Mountain Cave, Ballycryst­al House and Lola Montez, Michael T Fenlon and Springmoun­t House and a native who was prohibited from returning to Ireland after serving in the Australian Imperial Forces in France in World War One are among the topics that Myles will cover.
