Loving Dolly had a great sense of humour
THERE WAS great sadness at the loss of Dolores ‘Dolly’ Murphy, of Devereux Villas in Wexford, who sadly passed away last month at the age of 76, surrounded her loving family.
Originally from Templescoby in Enniscorthy, Dolly (nee Buckley) was educated locally before moving to the UK for work in her late teenage years. She worked in the Clarendon Court Hotel in Maidavale, London and was introduced to Roy Murphy by a mutual friend. The couple married in Davidstown in 1974 and moved back to Ireland the following year.
They lived first with family before moving to their own newly built home in Murrintown where they enjoyed ten happy years and made many friends in the locality. Following that, they moved back into Wexford town, to Devereux Villas. On returning home to Ireland, Dolly settled happily into the role of housewife and mother; she and Roy had a son William and daughter Amy, whom she lived for.
Dolly was a very friendly, outgoing woman who was well known around Pettitt’s and St Aidan’s Shopping Centre where her great sense of humour was appreciated by all those who knew her. She settled into life in Wexford town and made friends easily despite not being from the area.
She was a big fan of country and western music, and enjoyed going out for lunch as it meant she had a day off from cooking!
Unfortunately, in the past number of years, Dolly suffered from illness but it was something that she fought, every day, with a smile on her face, and with great dignity. She passed away peacefully, just two days after her 76th birthday, and a week after her 44th wedding anniversary. Her family are especially grateful to the staff at St Catherine’s Ward in Wexford General Hospital who provided phenomenal care to Dolly and her family.
Dolly is survived by her husband Roy, her son William and daughter Amy. She also had four grandchildren, Rebecca, Eoin, Sophie and Rhys, who range in age from three up to 17, and who she saw almost every day and doted upon.
She is predeceased by her sister Breda and survived by her brothers Liam, Eamon and Frank, and sisters Gertie and Betty.
