O’ Neil l’s LFA Junior Cup

There was mixed results for the Wexford representa­tives involved in the first round of the O’Neill’s LFA Junior Cup on Sunday.

North End United, who will be hoping to challenge on numerous fronts this season, had an easy passage to the next round as they overwhelme­d Sallynoggi­n Pearse FC 8-1 in Sallynoggi­n Park.

Jason Murphy and Paul Murphy (Kilmore) both helped themselves to hat-tricks, while Adam Beary added a brace.

Curracloe United eked out a 4-3 win over Garryhinch FC after extra-time, with Stephen McGuire (two), Richie Kearney and Tony Smith scoring for the seasiders.

Wexford Bohs also needed extra-time to get the better of Birr Town in Frank O’Connell Park, with Dermot Flood, Craig Kelly and Aaron Donovan scoring for the visitors in an impressive 3-1 victory.

Forth Celtic also progressed to the next round by overcoming Swords Celtic 4-2, with Lee Busher, Kyle Firman, Jamie Carty and Ryan Murphy getting on the scoresheet for the Wexford outfit.

Meanwhile, there was no joy for Crossabeg as they lost out 2-1 away to Crettyard. Kenny Kavanagh gave the visitors the lead with a fine finish from outside the area, but the hosts levelled before the break and grabbed a late winner.

Gorey Celtic suffered the heartache of a penalty shoot-out defeat as they lost out 4-2 on spot-kicks to Willow Park after a 1-1 draw.

James Graham fired Celtic in front on the hour mark, but the visitors drew level with ten minutes remaining to force extra-time, before prevailing on penalties.

Michael Kinsella got the goal for Courtown Hibs in their 2-1 defeat to Ballycane Celtic at Ounavarra Park, while Bridge Rovers lost 3-1 away to Duleek AFC, with Tom Keavney getting the Rovers goal.
