SPLIT-THE-POT

Ballagh keene National School parents’ associatio­n would like to thank everyone who supports split-the-pot. Eddie Timmons won the Special Draw prize of €122. The second prize of €50 was won by Lorcan Leacy while Liam Kehoe won the third prize of €25. split-the-pot which raises funds for the primary school will continue every Saturday. It costs just €2 to enter and entry envelopes are available at all local businesses and from the school.

HEALTHY CLUB PROJECT

Some places are still available on the ‘Get Strong Live Long’ sixweek exercise programme for older adults. Sinéad Ronan will be the fitness instructor and the first class will be held on Wednesday, October 3, at 8 p.m. This initiative is being promoted by Breda Flood, Oulart-The Ballagh GAA, Healthy Club Officer.

OPEN MIC NIGHTS

The Sawdust Inn will host Open Mic Nights, for eight weeks, starting on Thursday, September 27, with the proceeds going to the Community First Responder Unit. Music will be by Teresa and the Stars.

MARTIN STOREY TOURNAMENT

This under-14 Tournament will run for six weeks, with the first round to be played on Sunday, October 14, and the finals to take place in Oulart on November 25. Eighteen teams are competing this year and the fixtures for Oulart-The Ballagh are as follows: Sunday, October 14, Home to Ferns, St Aidan’s; Sunday, October 21, Away to Rapparees; to be followed by Home to Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n; Away to St Anne’s and Home to Our Lady’s Island/St Fintan’s. Starting time for all matches is 11 a.m.

365 HURLING

365 Hurling takes place in the the Ballagh NS every Wednesday, weather permitting. Children from first class to sixth class are all invited to take part, doing fundamenta­l movement and hurling skills from 8 a.m. to 8.50 a.m. before school. If you need more informatio­n please do not hesitate to contact the school principal, Mr Darren Nolan or Shane Reddy, Club Coaching Officer.

UNDERAGE GAMES

The under-11 boys travelled to Kilmacud Crokes in Dublin last weekend. They played five matches and had five wins congratula­tions to all the boys invovled and to their mentors Martin Redmond, John Paul Wickham, Martin Dempsey and Kerri Wickham for First Aid. Our under-seven hurlers travelled to Ballygunne­r and played two matches.On the way home the boys and their mentors stopped in to Super Macs. A great day was had by all and a special thanks goes to the mentors, Shane Reddy, Annette Redmond, Pierce Redmond and Benny Jordan.

CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to Murtha Doyle on winning medals with DCU for Fresher Hurling A Championsh­ip 2018, Fresher Hurling Division One League 2017 and Fresher Hurling ‘B’ League 2017 He was their top scorer and received their Fresher player of the year recently.

CROKE PARK

A fantastic evening took place in Croke Park on Sunday, September 30. Where as part of the Healthy Club initiative with Croke Park the boys and girls from the club took part in the historic Record-Breaking World Record for doing a training session on a pitch. A special thanks to Breda Flood the club’s Healthy Club Officier for organising the day and all her work with ‘The Healthy Club’.
