Tractors travel from all over to Drive Into Light
THE sound of over 65 tractor engines ticking over echoed all around Enniscorthy Mart recently as the Drive Into Light welcomed enthusiasts from right across Wexford and even from parts of Carlow and Wicklow. The event was the brainchild of Samantha Crofts and John Sharry who were determined to raise funds and awareness for local mental health charity Touched by Suicide.
‘Samantha came to me looking for ideas and we decided on the tractor run,’ said John. ‘I know Touched by Suicide do a lot of great work and they’re always under pressure to get funds in, so we were delighted to help. We had a great attendance on the day and there must’ve been around 500 people out at the mart over the course of the day.’
Among the other entertainment at the mart on the day was Dancing with Declan which saw some wonderful shapes thrown on the dance-floor before the run set off, following a route to Monart, out towards Clonroche, Bree, over Edermine Bridge and back to Enniscorthy.
John was delighted with how the event went and says that so far, it has raised around €3,500 with more money still to come in. He and Samantha wished to thank everyone who helped make the event such a success and are hopeful that the might host a similar event next year.
