Newlyweds get to the polling booth on time!

- BY DEBORAH COLEMAN

Happy couple Joe Sinnott and Sarah Clare weren’t going to let anything stop them voting in the Presidential election and referendum last Friday – not even their wedding.

Monaseed man Joe and Sarah from Ballynultagh in Shillelagh tied the knot last Friday in St Finian’s Church, Kilquiggan, on the Wicklow/ Carlow border, in front of their friends and family.

Before they could kick their heels up at their reception in the Ashdown Park Hotel in Gorey, however, the couple, who have been together for nine years, had a few important stops to make.

Sarah was joined by her parents Mary and Cyril, her five sisters – maid of honour Marion and bridesmaids Theresa, Anita, Ailish and Anna – and her brothers Thomas and James, who were groomsmen for Joe, as she stopped by the polling station at the Courthouse in Shillelagh to cast her all-important vote.

The next stop was Monaseed NS where Joe, the son of Peig and Mick Sinnott from Knockbrandon, Monaseed, added his vote to the big, black box.

With their civic duty done, public health nurse Sarah and Joe, who is a farmer and also teaches in Creagh College, enjoyed a wonderful wedding reception surrounded by their loved ones in Gorey.

The newlyweds will be taking a few days to relax in Ireland after the celebrations, and are planning a honeymoon next year.

There was further cause for celebration last Friday, as Joe turned 28 on the same day.
