Eyes to the skies at St Senan’s!

-

EXCITEMENT levels were through the roof at St Senan’s Primary School recently as students there looked to the skies in anticipation of a very special visit from the Air Ambulance and it’s crew.

All morning, pupils kept their eyes and ears peeled for the pending arrival of the chopper and the excitement hit a fever pitch as it hovered above before landing at the Shamrocks pitch. The visit came about rather simply with the crew getting in touch with the school.

‘Basically they contacted the school,’ explained Principal Ms Oona Rackard.

‘ They said that they were going to be training in the area and asked if we would like a visit. We were delighted and contacted the Shamrocks to see if it would be possible for them to land there and it was no problem. The kids had seen the helicopter landing over in Bellefield for a visit, so they were really excited to get a visit for themselves.’

When the crew landed, they were greeted by nearly 500 excited pupils and adults and they gave a fascinating presentation on the helicopter, how fast it goes, what kind of fuel it uses and the kind of equipment they carry on board.

The kids listened intently and quite a few of them returned to the school with dreams of becoming helicopter pilots themselves!
