RACE TO BE MAYOR

Oulart-The Ballagh’s ‘Race to be Mayor’ is up and running, with various fundraisin­g activities planned for the next few months. Events for the week ahead include a ‘Breakfast Morning’ in the Ballagh Community Centre on Sunday, November 4, 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., organised by Martin ‘ Sponger’ Fortune’s team. Phil Redmond’s team will hold a Card Drive in the Oulart Hill Bar, on Sunday night November 4, beginning at 8 p.m. Your support would be greatly appreciate­d, as all funds raised go to the local GAA club to help it continue the great work that it does in providing recreation­al facilities and opportunit­ies for youngsters and people of all ages.

CHRISTMAS FAIR

A Christmas Fair will be held in the Ballagh Community Centre on Sunday, November 18, between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Anyone interested in having a Table at the Christmas Fair (at a cost of €20) is asked to contact Bessie Kehoe at 087 2358835.The proceeds will go towards refurbishm­ent of the hall.

THE BALLAGH BOXING CLUB

Training resumes in the Ballagh on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. for underage boxers and beginners.

CFR GOING LIVE

The Oulart-The Ballagh Unit of Community First Responders will be going live on Friday, November 2, seven nights a week and all day at weekends, assisting the National Ambulance Service, on a totally voluntary basis.

SCÓR NA NÓG

The GAA Scór Talent competitio­n celebrates its Golden Jubilee this year. As usual the Co. Wexford underage competitio­ns take place in November and once again Oulart Community Centre will host one of the county semi-finals. Members of Oulart-The Ballagh GAA, camogie and Handball Clubs, who are under-17 on January 1, 2019, are eligible to compete in Solo Singing, Recitation, Music Group, Ballad Group, Figure Dancing, set dancing, Novelty Act and table quiz. Carrig-on-Bannow will host the first semi-final, featuring clubs from the Wexford and New Ross Districts, on Friday, November 16, while clubs from the Enniscorth­y and Gorey Districts will compete in Oulart on Saturday, November 17.

Registrati­on of competitor­s will begin at 7 p.m. and the stage competitio­ns get under way at 7.30 p.m. The county final will take place in Clonroche on Saturday, November 24. The Scór table quiz will be held in St Martin’s on Thursday, November 29, at 8 p.m. Parents/Guardians of boys and girls who would like to represent Oulart-The Ballagh should contact Breda Jacob (086 1686978).

PRIMARY SCHOOL SUCCESS

Well done to the Rackard League Football team from the primary schools of Oulart and the Ballagh on winning the Enniscorth­y District Final, Roinn C against Marshalsto­wn-Castledock­rell and following that, they defeated Ballygarre­tt in the county semi-final on a scoreline of three goals seven points to one goal seven points. Well done to the panel of players and to the teachers in charge, Ms Delaney and Mr McDonald. The details of the county final are yet to be finalised.

MARTIN STOREY TOURNAMENT

The under-14 boys had another good win in the Tournament on October 21 when they defeated Rapparees in Round two on a scoreline of 3-7 to 1-7. The team and management are wished the best of luck in the next match against Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n.

CHURCH-GATE COLLECTION

The Wexford branch of Down Syndrome Ireland will hold its annual church-gate collection in the Ballagh this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, November 3, and four. All money collected will stay in the Wexford branch to benefit all the children and adult members. Your usual generous support would be greatly appreciate­d.
