A new chapter for Monageer NS

- By ANNA HAYES

MONAGEER NATIONAL School made their own little bit of history recently as they opened their first school library, with the help of bestselling author Caroline Busher.

The Library was designed by Ann Marie Carthy from Stuart Design Studio and constructed by Jonathon Walsh, who created a fantastic infusion of colour. The new library is a bright and fun environment, perfect for kids to sit and learn in. The school included a mixture of new and old paraphernalia through the room, with large bright canvases decorated by each class, as well as some blasts from the past in the shape of vinyl, LP and cassette tapes, the aim being to educate the children about the past.

There are books for all age groups, in colour coded categories, with movable seats and book shelves.

Principal of the school, Eleanor Kehoe was praised for her insight into creating a sanctuary where reading could become a magival experience for all pupils. Gratitude was also expressed to the Parents’ Association for their hard work in making the dream become a reality, as well as to the teachers and secretary of the school, Ann Mackey.

Past pupils reminisced on days gone by while extended family and members of Monageer Parish gathered to join in the celebrations.

The day continued with visitors ambling through the library and admiring it. People described it as a child’s paradise.
