Hitting the red carpet with ‘Slab’

- By PÁDRAIG BYRNE

AMID the camera flashes and the red carpets, a little bit of Hollywood came to Enniscorthy last week as local couple Michael and Donna Cloke finally shared their latest project with the public - ‘Slab’.

A perfect blend of horror and thriller, the film was penned by Michael in April of this year, and in a relatively short period of time, was born as a full and finished project on the big screen at The Presentation Centre. With the tag-line ‘How far would you go for the ones you love?’, Slab is a gritty tale of kidnapping, butchery and blood all in the name of love. Not for the faint hearted, it even required a prosthetic leg to be made that resembled that of one of the actresses!

Michael stars in the film himself alongside Ella Marie Carmen, Sinead Farrell, Katie Cloke and Aoibhinn Hyland, all of whom were present on the night for the big reveal. Over 100 people donned their glad-rags and filed into the presentation centre, stopping for pics along the way on the red carpet.

‘It was fantastic,’ said Michael. ‘It was even better than I thought. It was like a little bit of Hollywood came to Enniscorthy. The feedback on the film has been amazing. It’s buzzing online as well. The hope now is to get it into the film festivals. I’ve already submitted it to five or six and then we’ll look to get it included in some of the bigger film festivals in the Spring. We’re overwhelmed by the reaction though. It’s probably one of the best things we’ve done.’

Meanwhile, for those of you who missed out on the première, fear not! Michael says plans are already afoot to have a second screening in the Presentation Centre in January.
