Friendships renewed at reunion event
OLD friendships were renewed in Enniscorthy when the class of 1978 from Coláiste Bríde held their 40th anniversary reunion.
The organisers were very happy with the turnout considering some of the class are now living abroad in places like Canada, Australia, America, Switzerland and the UK.
Around 35 people attended the reunion which was held in the IFA Centre in Enniscorthy.
The night was organised by a three-person team composed of Breda Nolan, Ann McBeigh and Lena Jordan.
They were delighted with how the night went and when speaking to this newspaper about the reunion Ms Nolan said the informal aspect of it made it all the more enjoyable for those in attendance.
‘We just had some finger-food and it was all very informal,’ she said.
‘We were happy with the number of people who turned up and it was just about renewing old friendships and catching up with what people are doing,’ she added.
The reunion was a very significant event for many of those in attendance because for some it was the first time they had seen their former classmates since leaving school.
‘We held a reunion for the 20th anniversary and for the 25th and while some of those present at the 40th were there as well some of the people didn’t get to make the previous ones so for them it was a very long time since they had seen their friends,’ said Ms Nolan.
She said the organisers deliberately made it was informal as possible and it was a very relaxed night for everyone.
Such was the success of the event that they hope to hold another reunion in five years to mark the 45th anniversary.
‘We also wished the best of luck to those people who were unable to attend but would have liked to and hopefully we will all be able to catch up again in five years time,’ said Ms Nolan.
It was a great night out for all concerned and it was great to see the ease with which everyone fondly remembered their school years and it was a case of continuing where they had left off 40 years ago.
