KEEP WEXFORD BEAUTIFUL
Jackie Christian attended the Keep Wexford Beautiful awards in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Monday night last and was delighted to accept a ‘Highly Commended’ award for the townland stones erected by community members recently. This award was in the ‘Best Community Initiative’ category. Well done to all involved.
FIRST AID COURSE
The first aid course running in Askamore Activity Centre is well attended and as a number of people have expressed an interest in attending a future course, it has been decided to hold one in the new year, dates still to be decided. ARTIST EXHIBITION
An art exhibition by local artists will run from Friday, November 23, to Sunday, November 25, in Askamore Community Centre. Doors open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Sunday. This exciting exhibition will display works by 14 local artists in a variety of mediums. Admission is free and there will be a donation box for anyone who would like to contribute to the National Disabled Artists fund. Some of the exhibits will be for sale. RURAL TRANSPORT
The local link bus leaves Askamore Church car park at 9.30 a.m. every Tuesday morning and 9.45 on Saturday mornings. This is a vital link to Gorey for many people and we would encourage people to use the service as often as possible. Phone Willie – 087 2449167 – for more info.
KILRUSH-ASKAMORE GAA
There was no winner of the latest lotto draw. The numbers were 1, 4, 6 and 25. Lucky-dip winners were Meave Donnelly, Caroline Breen, James Dunbar and Eoghan Mulholland. Mary Tomkins won the Sellers’ Prize. The next draw will be on Tuesday, November 20, in Peter Doyle’s, Ferns and the jackpot is up to €5,400. €2 tickets are available from club players and members.
This year’s AGM will be held on Sunday, November 25, at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse. Mass for deceased members will be in Askamore on Nov24th at 6 p.m.
CARNEW MUSICAL SOCIETY
Carnew Musical Society’s 52nd production, My Fair Lady based on Pygmalion by George B Shaw, book and lyrics – Lerner and Loewe will open on Monday next Monday, November 26, in St Brigid’s Hall, Carnew and will run nightly till Saturday, December 1. Coupled with a great storyline the show includes many favourites including, Wouldn’t it be loverly, I could have danced all night, Get me to the church on time, The Ascot Gavotte, On the Street where you live and With a little bit of luck to name but a few.

Camolin COMEDY NIGHT
Come along to the hilarious comedy production ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ with the fabulous Take Five (and DJ after) at the Ashdown Park Hotel, Gorey on Friday, November 30, at 8.30 p.m. Proceeds are in aid of the Bann River Echo Walk project by Camolin Community Development Association. Show begins at 9 p.m. and tickets cost €10, on sale in local stores in Camolin, committee members and in the Ashdown Hotel. There will be door and raffle prizes on the night.

Tombrack’s annual Mass of remembrance will be held in St Kevin’s Hall, Tombrack on Thursday, November 29, at 7.30 p.m.
FERNS BOWLING
Ferns Bowling is going very well. We have two mats going at present. We had an unexpected guest recently when Fr Cushen dropped in and joined us in playing some bowls and played very well.
We want to wish Pat Nolan well with his operation. We also wish Charlie Christopher’s daughter, Theresa Murphy a speedy recovery after her operation.
CONCERT THANK YOU
Ferns parish council wish to thank all who supported the annual parish concert on Wednesday, November 14, in St Aidan’s Church. A great night was had by all.
FERNS HERITAGE ARCHIVE GROUP
Ferns Heritage Archive Group will host an evening with Archaeologist John Tierney, who will give a talk entitled ‘Comparing Clone – the character, heritage and community of Clone Historic Graveyard within the Historic Graves Project’, an interesting talk focusing on Clone grave- yard. Venue is Ferns National school on Friday, November 30, at 7.30 p.m. Entry is €5 on the night.
FERNS TIDY TOWNS
ENVIRONMENT AWARDS – Ferns Tidy Towns had another fantastic night at the Keep Wexford Beautiful Environment Awards held in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Monday, November 12. On the night the group won first prize for the Best Community Waste Prevention/Re-use project and second prize for Best Community Biodiversity Project.
Mary Gethings chairperson was also presented with an award in recognition of her recent success at National level where she was the overall winner of the National Tidy Towns Community Hero 2018 Award.
Thanks to everyone who worked tirelessly throughout the year on our many projects and helping to keep Ferns looking so well. Your dedication and commitment makes this possible.
RESIDENTIAL AREA AWARDS - Judging of the Residential Areas Competition will take place over the coming weeks. All housing estates in Ferns with residents’ associations are automatically entered. Entrants are encouraged to keep their estates free of litter and have public areas well maintained. This is the eight-year of this competition and each year there is a notable improvement in the quality of entries.
BEST SHOPFRONT AWARDS – Judging of the Best Shop front Awards will also take place over the coming weeks. Judging will take into account the general presentation of the shop front (including lack of clutter and signage in windows) and tidy and well maintained frontage (including footpaths and kerbsides).
BEST RESIDENTIAL GARDEN – Final judging of residential gardens will also take place over the coming weeks. Results will be announced at the annual Ferns Tidy Towns Presentation Evening taking place in the Courtyard on Tuesday, November 27, at 7.30 p.m.
