NEWROSSSENIORS

Prior to the outing on Thursday, we held our A.G.M. which showed a very successful year for the group with great camaraderie on home and away outings. This is what the Seniors is all about, making and keeping friends in our own unique way. The biggest weekly buzz in the clubhouse is when our group arrive for their game.

The finances of the Seniors are in a healthy state and we have made sizeable donations to various charities throughout the year. One of the main items discussed and passed is that when there’s a three-person team, they have the rights on the first tee.

Also, we continue with our champagne scramble format for the winter months and play a team event once in every four weeks during the summer.

Some of our Seniors had notable successes in club competitions during the year, with Tom Kent winning the PGA Tankard, Steve Travis winning the Military Cup and medal, and Billy Redmond and Dick Cuddihy also figuring in the winners’ enclosure - congratulations and well done to the quartet.

After the torrential rains of the last week, 14 teams went out on Thursday, all with visions of taking home a prize. Once again, scoring was excellent on an exceptional dry course with superb greens for the time of year.

It even took a countback before the eventual winners could be confirmed.

A better back nine (47/46) saw Michael Gannon (18), Patsy Farrell (20), Larry Shannon (21) and Jim Kehoe (25) take the spoils with a final tally of 98 points.

On the same score and placed second were Dick Cuddihy (12), Richie Aylward (19), Kenny Irwin (21) and Richie Byrne (21).

After another countback of 48/46 on the last nine holes, Jim ‘Ross’ Ryan (17), Luke Power (19), Martin Hartley (22) and Tom O’Shea (24) took third prize with 96 points. One nearest the pin prize was won by Denis Kirwan on the ninth hole.

We have our Christmas outing and dinner next Thursday, December 6 (weather permitting), with over 40 already booked in. Anyone who wishes to still come, please contact Jamesie Murphy on 086-1846172, or e-mail jamesiemurphy@gmail.com as soon as possible because the restaurant want to know the numbers dining on the day.
