SOCCER NEWS

On Saturday the 24th. the St Cormac’s under-10 team took on Bunclody at home and with both teams playing excellent soccer, there was great entertainment for all the team’s fans. The under-sevens and under-eights took on the Ballagh FC in their first game of the season. Again there was an exhibition of skilled soccer on display and they hope to meet the Ballagh in a rematch in the near future. The under-sevens and under-eights cater for boys and girls and if any child is interested in joining the squad, they train on Tuesdays from 5.30 p.m. till 6.30 p.m. on the pitch beside St Cormac’s church in Boolavogue.

Niall Finn put the men’s ‘B’ team ahead when they travelled to Bunclody on Sunday the 25thof November, despite the hosts controlling play for the early part of the game. The goal came when Niall swerved a Ray O’Brien cross into the net and shortly afterwards, when they were awarded a penalty, it looked as if Bunclody would draw level. However, Adam Dunne guessed correctly, dived right and saved the shot. Niall extended our lead shortly afterwards, heading a re- bound to the back of the net and then he collected his hat-trick just before the break, punishing some sloppy defending by Bunclody.

A solid defence saw Bunclody limited to some long range shots in the second half and 3-0 win against the table toppers was a great result for our lads.

GAA LOTTO

The numbers drawn on Tuesday, November 27, in the Monageer-Boolavogue lotto draw were 4, 8, 24 and 32 and as no one had all four, the jackpot has been increased to €5,400 for the next draw. This will take place in Monageer on Tuesday, December 11, at 9.30 p.m. The usual match-three prize of €160 is also up for grabs and tickets costing only €2 can be had from all club members and local businesses.
