SCHOOL SITE HIT BY THIEVES
AN INVESTIGATION is under way in Enniscorthy after thieves stole diesel from a number of machines at the construction site of the new St Patrick’s Special School building in Upper Drumgoold.
A spokesperson for Enniscorthy gardaí said the incident occurred between January 18 and 21 and that a number of vehicles were targeted.
Around €1,000 worth of diesel is believed to have been taken and the gardaí are appealing for information from anyone who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area around that time.
‘ There are a number of machines parked at the site over the weekend,’ said the Garda.
The school’s principal, Lee Rogers, said he was aware of an incident taking place at the site but confirmed to this newspaper that work on the new school project is advancing at a steady pace.
‘Everything is going ahead on schedule and it looks we will be in the school as planned for 12 months from April,’ he said.
The new school is a €14.5m project and once completed will include a 5,940 sq m building that will cater for around 400 students.
The main contractor on the project is Wexford-based company Mythen Construction.
The school will comprise 20 classrooms, with en-suite facilities, junior and senior dining areas, general purpose halls, specialist teachings rooms and clinician facilities.
It will also be one of the few schools of its type in the country to have a state-of-the-art therapeutic pool installed.
