Cheque for Hope Centre

-

THE community support organisation, Awareness Head-to-Toe, has presented a cheque for €300 to the Hope Centre in Enniscorthy.

The money was presented at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting but was raised through a previous table quiz event held in the Courtyard, Ferns.

It was the organisation’s second AGM and speaking to this newspaper Emily Barker said it was the group’s first fundraising event.

‘ The organisation is only going two years and this was our first fundraiser and we decided to donate a third of the proceeds to the Hope Centre,’ she said.

The idea behind the group is to promote general health, mental health and farm safety.

‘ The Hope Centre had two tables at the quiz and they also had representatives at the AGM which was good,’ said Ms Barker, who is the group’s secretary.

The meeting itself followed the usual structure but Ms Barker said the key aim of the group is to promote social interaction between people.

‘Card games and going to people’s houses used to be the way of it and while social media can be good we don’t have that type of social outlet anymore,’ she said.

‘Social media is good but you can’t beat meeting people face-to-face and just listening to each other,’ she added.

The organisation acknowledged the support it received at the quiz and Ms Barker thanked everyone who supported the initiative.
