THE MONDAY CLUB

The Monday Club meets at St Mary’s Day Centre, Ryland Road on Mondays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come along and enjoy a social and informativ­e gathering.

The revised February programme is as follows: Monday, February 11 – Modern Technology; Monday, February 18 – Arts and crafts – Planning for the Year ahead; Monday, February 25 – Dancing Lessons with Declan Flannigan.

Throughout the year there is entertainm­ent, informatio­n sharing, arts and crafts, guest speakers, bingo and card playing. This club would suit 60 years plus age group. Entrance Fee: €4 which includes tea and light lunch.

Walking football takes place on Thursday mornings in Bunclody Soccer Club, Church Road at 11 a.m.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES NS

Our Lady of Lourdes National School will hold an open week from Monday, February 11 to Thursday February 14 for pupils starting school in 2019 and 2020. Parents and children are invited to call to the school any time from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. This will give parents (and children) a chance to see the school in operation and an opportunit­y to visit classes and talk to the teachers and pupils. GAA CLUB WALKING TRACK

Halfway House Bunclody GAA Club will light the walking track at the club grounds three nights a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. till March. Walkers must pay membership to cover insurance and the cost of electricit­y. annual Walking Membership is Adults €10 and OAPs €5 for the year.

HWH BUNCLODY GAA CLUB

Membership for 2019 for Half-WayHouse/Bunclody GAA Club is now due as follows: Social Membership (including walking track membership) €10; OAPs €5; Players €100; Students €40; Non-player/committee €30. These fees apply up to February 22. Fees will increase by 20 per cent after that date. If you download the GAA app to your smart phone you can pay your membership though that directly to the club.

SNOWDROP MONTH

The OPW, in associatio­n with the Carlow Garden Trail and Carlow Tourism, is delighted to announce an extension of snowdrop celebratio­ns in Altamont Gardens in February 2019.

In place of the usual Snowdrop Week, the public are welcome to Al- tamont Gardens to enjoy Snowdrop Month.

This new venture is in response to the great success of Snowdrop Week in recent years.

Guided tours of the extensive collection of snowdrops in the main garden will be facilitate­d by Head Gardener, Paul Cutler every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2 p.m. throughout February.

This unique collection, first started by Corona North, is now among the largest in Ireland with over 100 named varieties. The tour is reasonably priced at €3 per person, and the gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. for general viewing.

Robert Miller of Altamont Plant Sales will lead a tour of the snowdrop collection around the Walled Garden each Saturday at 2 p.m.

This tour is free of charge. The café in the Walled Garden is also open for hot drinks and homemade cakes throughout the month.

BRIDGE

Coming up this February in Bunclody Library – Thursday, February 7, at 7 p.m. – The Role of parents in our Lives – The cycle of the family – with Calodagh McCumiskey. The talk will cover the role parents play in our lives – at all stages.

It is the most difficult, most rewarding and most important job in the world.

It is a dynamic relationsh­ip that continues and changes as we age. The talk will motivate and engage attendees on the powerful and important place parents have in our lives and the consequenc­es of that for our lives as children, parents and grandparen­ts.

There isn’t a one size fits all strategy for best parenting – everyone is different and has different strengths and needs but the values our parents live by greatly influence how we ourselves live and parent.

There are no perfect parents but the optimum parentings means doing your best for yourself and your children.

CATALYST PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN

The Carlow Catalyst Programme For Women, is now looking for women interested in taking part in the following introducto­ry hobby courses to be held in the Focus Centre, Borris Library, Co. Carlow. – Quilling (Paper based craft); Make Up and Nail Care; Holistic Health and Healthy Food Made Easy.

Classes will be delivered in the morning for two hours over a six-week period. The proposed start date for these courses is the week beginning March 4.
