HWH/Bunclody GAA and Bunclody camogie club is celebratin­g gold and silver jubilees on Saturday, February 23, in Bunclody Golf and Fishing Club. Admission by ticket only. Tickets at €10 each are available from D & M Launderett­e, Bunclody. The event starts at 8.30 p.m.

GAA CLUB WALKING TRACK

Halfway House Bunclody GAA Club will light the walking track at the club grounds three nights a week, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. till March. Walkers must pay membership to cover insurance and the cost of electricit­y. annual walking membership is adults €10 and OAPs €5 for the year.

CHILD AND FAMILY SUPPORT NETWORK.

The child and Family Support Network invites parents or guardians to attend a session on Tips on Sleep for children and Young People in St Aidan’s Hall, Irish Street, Bunclody on Tuesday, March 5, from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Feel free to bring along a friend and drop in and enjoy a scone and a cuppa.

Coming up this February in Bunclody Library – Thursday, February 14, at 7 p.m. – Celtic Love Stories with Baya – Baya is a storytelle­r, a Cantairitz.

Following in the footsteps of her Italian Great- Grandmothe­r, she tells the stories of the Ancestors in Ireland’s Ancient East and those from the Celtic World of Britanny, Occitania, Wales and Scotland.

Thursday, February 21 at 7 p.m. – ‘Fire Safety at Home’ Fire Safety Talk with Colm McGrath, Assistant Chief Fire Officer – The three Golden Rules to follow to make sure that you and your family are safe from fire are.

Prevention: The best way to be ‘fire safe’ is to make sure that fires never happen.

Detection: A fire alarm that works will give you time to get everyone out of the house.

Evacuation: Help very young, old or sick people to leave the house. Get out and stay out.

Thursday, February 28, at 7 p.m. – Making a Will with Ethel Deacon. A will is a document that any person can have drawn up and that they then sign.

It will contain instructio­ns as to what is to happen to their assets when they die. If a person does not make a will, their estate will be divided in a way that is set out in law.

However, the people who will then benefit may not be the people the deceased person would have wished to benefit.

SNOWDROP WEEK AT ALTAMONT GARDENS

The OPW, in associatio­n with the Carlow Garden Trail and Carlow Tourism, is delighted to announce an extension of snowdrop celebratio­ns in Altamont Gardens in February 2019. In place of the usual Snowdrop Week, the public are welcome to Altamont Gardens to enjoy Snowdrop Month.

This new venture is in response to the great success of Snowdrop Week in recent years.

Guided tours of the extensive collection of snowdrops in the main garden will be facilitate­d by Head Gardener, Paul Cutler every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 2 p.m. throughout February.

This unique collection, first started by Corona North, is now among the largest in Ireland with over 100 named varieties.

The tour is reasonably priced at €3 per person, and the gardens are open from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. for general viewing. Robert Miller of Altamont Plant Sales will lead a tour of the snowdrop collection around the Walled Garden each Saturday at 2 p.m.

This tour is free of charge. The café in the Walled Garden is also open for hot drinks and homemade cakes throughout the month.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES NS

Our Lady of Lourdes National School will hold an Open Week this week, from Monday, February 11, to Thursday February14 for pupils starting school in 2019 and 2020.

Parents and children are invited to call to the school any time from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m.

This will give parents (and children) a chance to see the school in operation and an opportunit­y to visit classes and talk to the teachers and pupils.

Light refreshmen­ts will be served. Enrolment forms for 2019 are now available from the school office.

ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE

The annual Bunclody St Patrick’s Day parade will take place in Bunclody on Sunday morning, March 17.

CATALYST PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN

The Carlow Catalyst Programme For Women, is now looking for women interested in taking part in the following introducto­ry hobby courses to be held in the Focus Centre, Borris Library, Co. Carlow. – Quilling (Paper based craft); Make Up and Nail Care; Holistic Health and Healthy Food Made Easy.

Classes will be delivered in the morning for two hours over a six-week period. The proposed start date for these courses is the week beginning March 4.
