Women’sround-up

Four Premier Division teams, two Division 1 sides and one Division 3 side booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Wexford Women’s Cup after Sunday’s round of games.

The shock of the day saw Division 3 leaders St. Cormac’s overcome Division 1 side 2-1 Kilmore United, thanks to goals from April Breen and Kate Cullen with Roisin Furlong scoring for Kilmore.

Holders Seaview progressed to the last eight as they comfortably overcame Shelburne United 6-1 with Fiona Ryan, Stephanie Foley, Eimear Mullan, Lisa Dower, Kellie Mullan and Aoibheann Ryan all scoring for the winners.

Premier leaders Ferns overcame near neighbours Tombrack United with four goals in each half with Liz Evered scoring four while Leona Breen and Aoife Devereux scored two each.

LeAnn Delaney scored twice as Adamstown overcame fellow Premier side Cloughbawn 4-0 with Sandra Thorpe and Karolina Jaglarz also scoring. Unfortunately, Karolina had an eventful day as she broke her collarbone late in the game and all in Wexford soccer wish her a speedy recovery.

Forth Celtic and St. Joseph’s both progressed on 3-0 scorelines as they overcame Corach Ramblers and Cushinstown respectively. Rianna Cullen, Natasha Byrne Rossiter and Rachel Scannell scored for Forth while Aine Roche, Michelle Gahan and Laura Warren were the goalscorers for St. Joseph’s.

Bree United and Wexford Bohs played out a five-goal thriller with Bree eventually progressing on a 3-2 scoreline.

Denise Leniston scored two penalties for Bohs but goals from Laura Dunne, Tara Ennis and Amy Long saw the home side into the last eight.

In league action, Fastnet Rovers pulled away from the relegation zone in Division 2 with a hardearned 3-2 win away to Stoney thanks to goals from Niamh Browne, Shirley O’Neill and a rare goal from defender Amy Walsh. Grace Donovan scored both goals for the home side.

In Division 3, New Ross Town travelled to Ajax and have set up an exciting finish to the season with a 7-0 win, leaving them just a point behind leaders St. Cormac’s with one game to go.

Jenny Canning scored four with Kellie O’Neill also scoring two while Cria Langton also found the net.
