Sweeney strike keeps saints in promotion hunt

Division1

St. Cormac’s moved into third spot in Division 1 with a hard-fought win over Gorey Celtic on Friday evening.

James Sweeney fired the saints in front midway through the first-half and they soaked up Celtic pressure after the interval to take the three points.

North End United overcame bottom side St. Leonards 4-1, with Aaron Roche, Philly Leniston, Joe Wilson and Ciarán Carthy scoring for the Wexford town side and Tommy Byrne replying.

Liam Evans, Lee Jordan, Anto Larkin and John Peare got the goals for Moyne Rangers in their 4-2 victory over New Ross Celtic, with Seán Culleton and Adam Gracze hitting the back of the net for the Barrowside­rs.

Division2

Adamstown moved level on points with Glynn Barntown at the top of Division 2 thanks to a comfortabl­e win on the road in Cushinstow­n.

Ian White, Alan Bradley and Brandon Sinnott got their goals in a 3-0 victory.

A goal from Mark Kavanagh after the interval earned Crossabeg a share of the spoils away to Enniscorth­y United, after Willie Dobbs had fired the hosts in front in the first-half.

Division3

Shamrock Rovers moved to within a point of leaders Gorey Rangers after overcoming Duncannon 4-1 on Sunday. Adam Foley got the goal for the seasiders.

Bree United ran out convincing 6-1 winners over Rathnure, with Dylan Dalton scoring a double and Tony Ryan, Eddie Galavan, Philip Walsh and Enda Byrne grabbing a goal apiece.

Eoin Furlong, Frank Staples, Stephen Costello and Peter Finn all hit the back of the net for Raheen in their 4-1 win over Wexford Celtic in Sinnottsto­wn Lane. Richie Browne got the goal for the hosts.

Division3A

Rosslare Strand strengthen­ed their hand in the Division 3A title race as they edged out fellow high-flyers Forth Celtic in the top of the table clash on Sunday. Steven O’Reilly scored the only goal of the game with 20 minutes remaining to earn Strand a precious three points.

Promotion-hopefuls Wexford Bohs suffered a blow when they were beaten 3-2 by Fethard Rangers. Jimmy Sutton fired Fethard in front but Bohs battled back to take a 2-1 advantage, with Alan Flood and Robbie O’Connor hitting the back of the net. Fethard weren’t done yet though and Chris Colfer netted a double to earn them the victory.

Corach Ramblers and Rosslare Rangers shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw, with Mohammed Zaman scoring for Ramblers and Danny Ennis replying.

Division4

Division 4 leaders Rosbercon United had to be content with a share of the spoils on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Kiltealy Celtic.

Kevin Doyle and Nathan Gaffney got the goals for Rosbercon, with John ‘Samba’ McCarthy and Patrick Somers scoring for Kiltealy.

Courtown Hibs moved level on points with United after a 5-2 win over Ferns. Adam Ellard bagged a hat-trick for the winners, with Oisin Condren adding a double and Anthony Dwyer and Shane Breen hitting the back of the net for Ferns.

The Ballagh United and Carne FC played out a 1-1 draw, with Ian Storey scoring for the hosts and Aaron Corish netting for Carne.

Camolin Celtic picked up the points against Curracloe United, winning 3-1 with goals from Josh McGrath (two) and Ashley Tully.

Greg O’Rourke, Jake Cassidy and Owen Byrne got the goals for Gorey Celtic in their 3-1 win over Campile United, with Paddy Cardiff replying.

Division4A

Division 4A leaders Cloughbawn had to be content with a share of the spoils on Sunday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Taghmon United.

Seán Lambert got the goal for the table-toppers, with Darren Carty hitting the back of the net for Taghmon.

Caim United moved into second spot with a 3-1 win away to Rosslare Port. Paudie Lacey bagged a double for the winners, with Stephen Dunbar getting their other goal.

Jamie Murphy scored for Tombrack United in their 1-1 draw with Castledock­rell.

Division5

Leaders Wexford Bohs chalked up an emphatic victory on Sunday as they saw off Enniscorth­y United 5-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Graham Kelly and goals from Josh Guerrine and Jay Leniston.

St. Cormac’s edged out New Ross Town in a seven-goal thriller, with Niall Finn (two), Nathan Dickson and Ray O’Brien scoring for the winners and Dawidd Ruszczycki, Carroll Fernandez and Dean Hunt replying for Town.

Robert Doran bagged both goals for Bunclody in their 2-2 draw with Shamrock Rovers.

Elsewhere, Ajax Athletic edged out Wexford Celtic 2-1 with strikes from Jamie Fox and Ciarán O’Neill. Ryan Lynch got the Celtic goal.
