NEW ROSS SENIORS

After being rained out the previous week, last Thursday brought more benign conditions although a tad on the cool side.

After the heavy downpours of Wednesday night, the course was in immaculate order and high scoring was the order of the day.

We went with our new format of the champagne scramble, with three drives per each team member in vogue which must be strictly adhered to. The proper way to carry out this rule is to mark player A, B, C, or D, whose drive was used on any given hole, down the outside portion of the score card.

Mark the details after each hole played, because if these are not clearly displayed and show the drives used, then the offending team faces immediate disqualification when the final scores are checked.

So it was last Thursday, when the winning team unfortunately got disqualified for not recording correctly the number of drives taken by each team player when, according to rule, they are directed to do so.

On a re-count over the last nine holes (55/52), the team of Eddie Keher (12), Michael Gannon (18), Richie Byrne (21) and Ollie Brennan (29) carried the day with a score of 102 points.

On the same tally (102 points, 96 + 6), the three-person team of Martin Carroll (12), Richie Aylward (19) and Mick Long (23) took second prize.

Clocking up the tonne (100 points), Ray Shannon (14), Jamesie Wallace (21), Liam Glasheen (21) and Jim Kehoe (25) finished in third place.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Andy Ronan on the ninth hole and Jamesie Wallace on the eleventh hole.

On the board for the remainder of February are Billy Redmond, Martin Burke and John Murphy.
